My heart goes out to each of you!
Having been a "survivor" of Hurricane Katrina, I was wondering if the government of Britian was doing a better job of helping those affected than ours:
A few stats on what has happened with all of the money sent to the survirors of Katrina, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Fed govmt allocated $23.5 BILLION to MS. That is enough to buy average size houses for each of the 65,000 people who lost their homes, $ enough left over to buy a brand new Honda accord to split between their two houses aver. $166,000. And by the way it is stated that is not the base model Accord, but the EX version. In addition, it's enough to give each man, woman and child in the three Southernmost counties $68,500 apiece.
However, 2 years latter the residents who survived this disaster still are waiting for grants and had it not been for volunteers would still be living in tents.
I was wondering how your government has helped/ or not helped the flooding survivors?

One of the worst disasters in U.S. history, and the majority of a MAJOR U.S. city remains in ruin...have we forgotten so easily and so soon?

Ther have been 27 amendments, should the 28th be the repealing of the 2nd, and that the "the right of the people to keep and bear arms", "being necessary to the security of a free state", is now rather outdated?

I mean with 27 amendments, the US admits they have had to update their original charter on more than one occasion. One more to reverse this outdated precedent, from when the US was a nation of different collectives, to what it is now, surely must be on the cards.
I mean the 27th in 1992 was to limit congressional pay rises, so c'mon more forward thinking here people. What do you think?

And please....don't mention America...I know there are great countries in Norway/Sweden/Denmark who have amazing social systems...just want to hear more about places who really look after the people.

EG: Did you know that Denmark has dentists in the SCHOOLS. Every child has their teeth, including orthodontics (braces) looked after the entire time they attend school....for free.

Ok so this was someone else's idea but still it goes with my other question, which very few people GOT in the first place...they all took it personally whether rich or poor.

So let me word it this way and perhaps clarify because I'd like more focused feedback.

I quite agree with the person who posed this question this way because I think people in general, but mostly the poor and uneducated, allow themselves to be manipulated.

There are literally those with insufficient brain cells to possibly help themselves even if they could....this much is true regardless of where you want to bite me in the *** for saying so, but those who can, DONT. How many of you have actually picked up a phone and called someone in your government to complain about something, or emailed them and kept on their butts until they did something?

How many of you FIGHT in your school system, and gather together and take it to your school boards and get your trustees involved, etc.

Seriously....how can you believe anyone with money really gives a sh*t about the average joe-schmoe....?

It's like saying someone who buys a Jaguar really cares about the carburetor...it's the Jaguar as a whole they love...if a part goes it's replaceable...when the car goes they replace it too...all they really care about is making enough money to be able to buy or fix it. They just "maintain" it to extend the life of the "vehicle" so why do you assume government really cares about people as individuals?

Weird analogy I know but if they cared why are the small people just being steamrolled over???

This would be from the colonial era. I'm thinking no because there was the house of burgesses in Virginia.

this is an excerpt from a multiple choice question, but im unsure because another answer is: many colonial governors ruled with autocratic powers. I'm not sure if that is true orfalse either. its definately between those two though.

Let's take liberty and capitalism out of it, is the system of "rule by the people" a particualrly good thing? Would it be better to have a well run autocracy?

It's almost a lock. Since Republicans have proven themselves to be thieves, child molesters and generally complete idiots, they couldn't get anyone elected for dogcatcher let alone high office.
I don't like the sound of it, but looks like we have to get used to hearing it?
