Seriously....how can you believe anyone with money really gives a sh*t about the average joe-schmoe....?
It's like saying someone who buys a Jaguar really cares about the carburetor...it's the Jaguar as a whole they love...if a part goes it's replaceable...when the car goes they replace it too...all they really care about is making enough money to be able to buy or fix it. They just "maintain" it to extend the life of the "vehicle" so why do you assume government really cares about people as individuals?
Weird analogy I know but if they cared why are the small people just being steamrolled over???

Well there you go trotter...the truth comes out in that last sentence...and that is exactly my point.
PS...your life and mine are pretty well identical...so there you go...all we share differently are points of views...and I still believe the rich do what they do charity and all because it's expected otherwise they would be considered "rich snots".
Sorry but that's the truth of it.

PS: None of the above is true...I'm just being a royal B*otch to get the truth out of you all, rich and poor alike.
Truth is the rich (AND POWERFUL) perhaps that is what is missing in this equation) do not care. Sure they want you alive and working for them....funny how elitist the rich can be (we've earned it so screw you...as if the 75 percent of people on this universe who are poor should be blown away or something....)
This world is on self destruct mode and you have no idea what's in store.

Yeah well Ben as someone who has stood up for people who are very undeserving and very ungracious I can tell you, that I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for most people....regardless of whether they are rich or poor...there are abusers and moochers on both sides.
Pray you don't end up being such a cynic huh?

Your questions are provacative but mean spirited. Some rich care, most don't. Those people will only care when the disparity is great enough that the working class rises up and trys to chop off their heads. As has happened periodically throught history. As long as the greatest masses have enough to be comfortable and well fed that will not happen. Mao said religion was the opiate of the masses, and it was. But today's fix is from media. Put your brain on idle and watch a tube. The addicted have no energy for reform

Why do people post seemingly serious questions and answers based on misinformed opinions? I do understand that many people are truly attempting to find answers, however badly stated their questions are. I suggest to the asker to read various religious and/or philosophical treatises/dissertations regarding the moral requirements in regards to wealth and assisting the poor. Moreover look up statistical evidence to either support your basic thesis (that the rich don't care about the poor), or disprove it. I have provided a wikipedia entry on basic philosophical concerns, and a pdf on a meeting between the World Council of Churches & the IMF & World Bank. Go to the IRS website. Do some research people. Most of you are just ignorant, lazy ranters with no clue to what you're ranting about.
FYI, I have also included a web link to Generous Giving, a ministry that incourages people of ALL incomes to be more generous with their income. They make the claim that while wealth has increased in the last 50 years, generous giving has decreased; that during the Great Depression, when people had LOW incomes, generous giving was higher than at present. This ministry seems to support the basic argument that the rich do not give proportionally, thus they don't, as a whole, care about the poor. Do your OWN research.

Some rich people have a lot of compassion and do actually care about those less fortunate. What most are very unwilling to do is simply give a handout that will be wasted and gone in days.
Rich people also tend to protect thier wealth as best they can. Often, this is in opposition to some ideas that really are just another handout.
Find a way that benifits the poor in a real way without attacking the wealth of the rich and they will usually get behind it.

I found one person that perhaps does not want to show it , a doctor and his wife was a doctor. They gave everything up and live in poverty. There are some, I don't think some people really want to show it, it would mean that you have ulterior motives. For example all the rich that donate to their 'favorite' charities..its only a show, it's really a tax write off. Why because in the States the taxes are very high and a lot of rich people get away with 'charity' work. It helps them in the long run. And you though rich people were dumb.

Conversely, do the poor ever really care about the rich??
Our society is made up of a diverse and eclectic group of individuals, all more concerned about ourselves than others.
To assuage his conscience, a rich man writes a check to help the needy once in a while.
To boost his own self-esteem, a poor man resents the rich.
Too bad we can't all just get along and share all of the resources of this great and wealthy nation. Somehwere in the good book there's something about giving all of your wealth away and being rewarded tenfold. That ain't gonna' happen in a materialistic culture such as ours. Even the poor squander their pittances on lottery tickets in hopes of becoming rich so they, too, can step up another rung on the ladder.
One day, after the bomb blows most of us away, we will return to a tribal culture where everyone shares with everyone else, the land is considered sacred and belongs to all, and no one holds rank over another. -RKO- 08/26/07

What a stereotypical, intellectually lazy question. As a rich person in the top 2% of household income (as defined by the government), let me tell you how I care for the unfortunate (notice, I didn't use the undefined term "poor").
a. My wife and I donate well into five figures each year to private charities.
b. My personal passions are supporting the MS Society and cancer research.
c. I am a consumer and, as such, support 1000's of people with my consumption.
d. I probably pay more in taxes than 99% of the liberal trolls that inhabit YA.
e. I am busy raising a wonderful family, as well as protecting them from the predators of this world.
You know, in retrospect, you're right. I don't care about Joe Scmoe. I care about my family. And, as such, I'm pretty much spending most of time tending to their needs.

A better question would be, "Will the poor truly ever care about themselves?" In the United States we are not supposed to place the status quo before work ethic and ambition. If you are born poor then, guess what? You are going to live in poverty until you do something about it. Handouts aren't a solution. Whatever handouts the rich give to the poor it will never be sufficient enough to sustain their economic growth.

There have been, and are, plenty of exceedingly wealthy people who do care about the poor, from Andrew Carnegie to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet (the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is by far the largest charitable organization to date in terms of the amount of money endowed, thanks to Gates and Buffett who have pledged billions).
Franklin Roosevelt was extremely wealthy yet as President he set up many social programs that benefit the underprivileged.
If no one in our government had ever cared about the "small people" we wouldn't have Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security.

Some rich people don't care about anyone but themselves. But saying all rich people have that attitude is stereotyping them and is just as prejudiced as if you said "all black people are stupid and lazy."
Many people who are wealthhy do in fact care--some for humanitarian reasons--they care about those who are less fortunate and are willing to help out. Some realize it's in their self interest to be helpful.
Examples: Bill Gates and Warren Buffet--both of whom are giving BILLIONS to help the less fortunate. Others include Bono, Ted Turner, Jimmy Carter.
And--even as far back as the early 1900's Henry Ford raised the wages in his model T automobile plant to double the usual wages for the time--and did so not just to be nice. He realized that that would help keep trained people on the job--and would enable his workers to afford to buy cars, increasing his market.
There are people--the executives of Enron and WorldCom--who are nothing but greedy, dishonest bast***s, of course. But don't pick some group-the rich or anyone else--and apply labels to all of them. Judge each individual by his/her actions--anything else is simply bigotry. And that's wrong, no matter who your target is.

Because really it's all about the money!!!!
Most people have ambition, which is to be rich and have the best things in life. Hey, if you don't choose to try to make a better life for yourself, then why feel angry that a rich person who has worked hard to get where he's at doesn't want to share it with you?
