Absolutely, he was a one man movement who challenged authority and ultimately won(ok to some degree). He's certainly deserving of it and probably a lot more than just a monument.

Martin Luther King was a great man, too bad those who succeed him don't come up to the top of his boot straps. The movement that claims to follow his lead is a miserable shadow that distorts his path into just one more group of welfare pimps.

It's overdue. What gets me is the racist nature of the comments being made about the Chinese artist who is doing the statue. Think about it. MLK dreamed of a day when everyone would be treated equally regardless of their skin color and now you have people offended a Black sculptor wasn't given a chance first. How do you think MLK would feel about this? Knowing that society still isn't as he dreamed it would be would make him shake his head. Equality is what he wanted, not special consideration.
