Government - December 2006

Well, it is time for me to write a debatable college thesis paper. I am searching for articles and opinions that may be useful for my research.
My topic is: "How far can we stretch our first amendment rights?"
I believe most, if not all US citizens, have an opinion on this matter. Remember that this is a debate paper and my personal opinions are not going to be in it at all. If you have an opinion or you have an online newspaper article, please post it here. Thankyou!

We have record highs on the stock market 4.4% unemployment under 3% inflation deficit is starting to shrink revenues are increasing. During the Clinton admistration we had similar fiqures but not as good as these yet Clinton was praised everyday for it. Why is it that this president never gets a mention considering he inherited a recession.

I'm not at all anti american but I've been looking at alot of articles today to do with the war in Iraq and Terrorism.
The Ira is a terrorist organisation that was funded largely by the US. If the US was found to be funding Al Qaeda what would people say about that?

The reason I ask is because of the recent law passed in New York city. This is where all restaurants are now banned from using trans fat in their food. The stuff that makes fries, pies and and burgers taste delicious. It seems to me that the government feels that people are too dumb to make up their minds on what to do. People know the harmful effects of things like fatty foods and smoking, let us decide for ourselves if we want to indulge. It is only harming ourselves not others. This seems like a very slippery slope. What is next fast food, roller coasters, and contact sports?

I cannot believe how much it costs to LIVE in this state, and by live I mean eek out a tolerable existance while managing to just barely afford the cost of living.

We live in a big old house that uses 800 gallon of fuel oil to heat, have a tiny village lot where the taxes without the home owners deduction are nearly 2000 a year (i mean this lot is so small we're having an impossible time finding a place to put an adequit septic system in), our electric is over 100 dollars a month, you have to travel 30 miles to go grocery shopping and I pay about twice as much for half the groceries I could buy when i lived in the midwest.

Its just impossible to get ahead. You cant find work up here, i dont know anyone who works less than 40 hours a week, and yet none of them can afford even a car payment, let alone afford to keep their heads above water when raising a family.

No one can afford health care, and no one can qualify for government assistance.

What is it with this state?

This is a key point. The White House is the most secure private residence in the world, equipped with a sophisticated entry control system and video surveillance system installed by the Mitre Corporation. Yet no record exists that Vincent Foster left the White House under his own power on July 20th, 1993. No video of him exiting the building exists. No logbook entry shows he checked out of the White House.

Address this one fact please ,rationally re 9/11?
This is a pic of one of the columns at WTC.Nobody disputes its authenticity.
.
It clearly shows a cut core.15years as a diver and steel worker and I can assure you ,that is not a torch cut. However it is ENTIRELY consistent with set directional charges used in demolition.

People say"oh well ,that is only one column" mY QUESTION IS how many columns would it take to convince you?If explosives were not used ,that cut column has no business being there now does it?
The FEMA investigators were not even allowed on site and the steel was taken away and sold as quickly as possible. To Baosteel in China at 25% below market.WITHOUT BEING EXAMINED WHICH IS LAW IN new york state where fire occurs in highrise steel fires over 10 stories

They teach in the schools that the white man enslaved the blacks. That the white man captured and brought the blacks to America, that the blacks suffered greatly in the hands of the whites. What I've never heard being taught in schools though, is how most of the blacks who were brought to America by the white man were bought from African tribe leaders who sold their own people. How in the early 1800's before the Civil War, in the states that were known for slavery, almost 30% of the slave owners for each individual state were Black slave owners. How in South Carolina a Black man named Ellison became one of the major manufactor of Cotton Gins while using slave labor and owning slaves in the high numbers. Why is all this taken out of the History that is tought in our schools, why is it only pinned on the White man?

I answered a question earlier about Terrorism and it got me thinking. If America is one of the most violent places in the world with alot of problems with its gangs, murder rates and guns, how can they even try to sort out the rest of the worlds problems. Washington DC has a murder rate of 42 per 100,000 and London only has 2. 85% of the Worlds serial killers live in America. A shocking 37 million Americans live in poverty. That is 12.7 per cent of the population - the highest percentage in the developed world. Whilst Bush has been president 5.4 million have become poverty stricken.
Weapons of mass destruction is another thing that annoys me. How many wmd do Britain and America have. How can they tell the rest of the World they can't have them?
Bush is a mumbling idiot who can't even talk properly whilst making a speach.
Other countries have evil dictators, why do we not sort them out?

Am I the only one who resents seeing this program of how the Whitehouse is decorated and the big feast to come with all the "guests?"

My husband and I were watching this last evening and we were saying "wow, that is really an attractive piece." Then I thought wait, we're helping pay for that. While we're struggling to pay the bills after Uncle Sam takes 40% out of my husbands "hard-earned paycheck and high tax bracket" -- it wasn't so pretty anymore.

While they're living it up in x-mas (no christ in that house) style, what about the Katrina victims who still don't have help, still. What about all the families in grief over their dead loved ones who fought in the Iraq war or who are still fighting in Iraq for a lie out of Bush's mouth.

Do their sentiments really echo "Deck the Halls and Welcome All?" I will be the first to tell you they'd toss us (the people who funded the big garish shindig out the front door head first!
