I cannot believe how much it costs to LIVE in this state, and by live I mean eek out a tolerable existance while managing to just barely afford the cost of living.

We live in a big old house that uses 800 gallon of fuel oil to heat, have a tiny village lot where the taxes without the home owners deduction are nearly 2000 a year (i mean this lot is so small we're having an impossible time finding a place to put an adequit septic system in), our electric is over 100 dollars a month, you have to travel 30 miles to go grocery shopping and I pay about twice as much for half the groceries I could buy when i lived in the midwest.

Its just impossible to get ahead. You cant find work up here, i dont know anyone who works less than 40 hours a week, and yet none of them can afford even a car payment, let alone afford to keep their heads above water when raising a family.

No one can afford health care, and no one can qualify for government assistance.

What is it with this state?

Businesses are taxed to death before they can even try to help the economy... everything is dead around here, all the hospitals are closing...

ive never seen a state so void of progress. Its sickening.

I grew up in columbus... where getting a job as as easy as picking your favorite place to shop and putting in an application.

Rent around here is about 600 dollars for a 1 bedroom, no utilities. This is upstate for cripes sake, 2 hours north of albany. in the BOONIES.

its crazy! Ive never experienced such a dead economy in my life.

Oh AND dont get me started on gas and fuel costs. My propane was 3.09, and my fuel was 3.17 these last deliveries.

Gas at the pump is 2.49, but drive 15 miles to VT and its 2.17.

WTF?

Hey I moved to Atlanta... I used to live in upstate NY all your figures stated I paid 3 times that much. The politicians in that state has lost all sense of reality, people keep leaving the state because of high taxes so they keep raising taxes to make up for the revenue shortfalls, which makes more people keep leaving it is a vicious cycle. Has anyone notice the 2 most liberal states in the country NY and California has the highest taxes most things are unaffordable for the middle class, people are leaving in droves and liberals would like the whole country to have policies like this?

Where in VT did you find gas for $2.19??? I'm north of Burlington and it is $2.32 to $2.39 in this area.

It's not just NY. Vermont is the same way. It has nothign to do with Hillary Clinton, despite what some say, it has to do with the lack of business growth. Electricity bills are high here, housing is ridiculous, and taxes are insane. In order for a business to come in and survive, they need these costs lowered. I know VT will throw all kinds of permitting papers at them and that drives them away.

Look at the ongoing battle in St. Albans to put in a Walmart - it's been 15 or more years now and it's still not happening. For years people were told that Walmart would put Woolworth's and Ames out of business, and that Walmart couldn't come to St. Albans. Both dept. stores are gone and now St. Albans has no dept. store. It's still being fought however. This case has tied up the court system for far too long!

Many big companies (GE, Belden) have shut down. Others have drastically cut their employee numbers over the years (IBM, Husky, Bombardier, Wyeth, VT Whey, Champlain Cable) The airforce base in Plattsburgh leaving was a huge blow to that city and nothing has revitalized the city at all.

Until this area wakes up and gets decent paying jobs in here, there is no hope.

Well, Hillary might make a giant influence at the methods of the arena by means of being the Sec. of State. As a junior senator and in no way more likely to turn out to be a powerhouse within the senate, she is restrained by means of time..if not anything else. I can guarantee you despite the fact that, that among her and Bill, they have got their possess time table that might mainly are compatible proper into the worldwide photo...although it needs to be placed on maintain for a time.

It's like that here. (Ill) It was bad in Florida when I lived there. I was afraid I'd never get out of there since I couldn't even afford an at home vacation, let alone actually leave the state. But hey.....according to the government.....we're all doing great!!!! Some are but most aren't.........

I'm from there ( the city ) . Would never go back there. But the rest of the country is no bargain either. Why would you want to be there in the first place? It's a corrupt haven. NO ONE REALLY PRODUCES ANYTHING THERE. See a pattern?

Born and raised in NY, joined the Navy and except for 4 visits in over 30 years I would never move back. NY and Cali. are the two most proto-soviet states we have. Yeech.
