Am I the only one who resents seeing this program of how the Whitehouse is decorated and the big feast to come with all the "guests?"

My husband and I were watching this last evening and we were saying "wow, that is really an attractive piece." Then I thought wait, we're helping pay for that. While we're struggling to pay the bills after Uncle Sam takes 40% out of my husbands "hard-earned paycheck and high tax bracket" -- it wasn't so pretty anymore.

While they're living it up in x-mas (no christ in that house) style, what about the Katrina victims who still don't have help, still. What about all the families in grief over their dead loved ones who fought in the Iraq war or who are still fighting in Iraq for a lie out of Bush's mouth.

Do their sentiments really echo "Deck the Halls and Welcome All?" I will be the first to tell you they'd toss us (the people who funded the big garish shindig out the front door head first!

It really doesn't offend me when people deliver their opinion of me. I know who I am and I am not a communist , a liberal, or any other negative connotation you can come up with.

The program is still running on various cable channels.

anyone who say "wronger" is NOT to be taken seriously. And Turbo: pfft, resorting to name calling is a childish gester in your other posts and I will not take you seriously as well. As for cussing, pull out a dictionary and educate yourself regarding REAL words.

Turbo:

You repeat everything you hear in conversations with others and claim it as your own intelligence. Sorry turbo, but why are you not working today? I am a mother with children at home--what is your excuse? Welfare?

I think your resentment is unfounded. The occupants of the White House (The Peoples' House) are the elected representatives of our whole country. Sure, they could pay for the decorations themselves, but it's OUR house, and represents OUR celebrations, too.

If you're upset about taxes, you should be upset about the unconstitutional socialist and other spending that accounts for over half the federal budget but is not authorized spending per the Constitution. This includes all welfare, social security, medicare, etc as well as education, and other Departments. The wastefulness of those programs, and the harm they've done to the country and the Constitution and our rights and freedoms makes the money spent on X-mas (and stop judging them - you have no right to judge their souls) seem a paltry sum.

This u . s . replaced into in accordance with freedom and that i won't enable it to be destroyed. we've people from 40 and older that have been somewhat taught what the form potential and unique and effective this u . s . is. There are some youthful people yet very few that fairly understand this u . s . and the sacrifices that our ancestors have made on our soil and away to maintain freedom. interior the present years this word has been bastardized so as to justify conflict, for economic positive aspects yet I even have relatives that fought interior the progressive and Civil conflict(the two sides) and that i won't enable some usurper save me quiet.

About your first two paragraphs -

Wow. You couldn't have said anything better. We're the ones paying for all those fancy lights, trees, cakes, and parties! Taxpayer money is the source of it ALL. Hey, lighten up on the goodies, and let us keep our money, Governor!

But about the War on Terror -

You couldn't have been wronger. This is no lie we're fighting for. We're fighting so that your house won't be blown up by Saddam Hussein the second, so that another 9/11 won't occur. What's wrong with people? Don't they SEE that? If I wasn't a girl, I'd go over there and help those soldiers myself - they're fighting for freedom and we need to ENCOURAGE that, not discourage it! What happened to the Pat Tillmans? They got squashed by the liberal media!

Otherwise, terrific point.

It was usual during periods of having a nation at war, that celebrations were kept modest so as to serve as a reminder that although we are safe and warm, many others are worrying about loved ones and injured men and women.
Surely a more modest style would have been a more appropriate expression of our troubled time than the orgy of red and silver balls and gingerbread they used, whether they were donated or not.
And I hope that they paid for the decorations in the private quarters, where, for all I care they can have as flashy a celebration as they want.
I don't expect them to go to the Gulf Coast to see what their incompetence has wrought over a year later, but maybe they will fly over on their way to Crawford...and wave.

You are full of sh**. Your hubby is not paying 40%, unless he is getting almost half of it back in his tax return.

Ask a capital policeman (if you know any) whether Fosters body was moved or not. I am from Va. and it was reported on our local CBS station. Clinton insiders later confessed that Hillary made the order. WHY?

No, you are not the only bitter liberal who resents people who you think have to much.

A lot of the expense of all that comes from private donations.

The trees for example are donated.

As was Nancy Reagan's China but you don't hear much about that in the press.
