The UKs last 2 surviving veterans of the First World War.

Should their passing be marked with state funerals or other national recognition?

Most of the men in my family has served or is serving in the military. I love our military and I am very proud of them.

The other day I saw a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk with a cardboard sign saying "please help me, I'm a vietnam veteran".

I reached into my purse to give him some money. He saw this and shouted, "God bless you dear, thank you!" .. But then I smelled a very strong alcohol smell on his breath, and I decided right then and there, that giving this man money would not be a good idea.

I just walked away, with the veteran cussing and yelling at me.

All in the title. Can the police (after they have pulled you over for speeding) call a K-9 unit to search your car without a warrant or your consent?

I welcome all answers short and long. I would start with free education (via computers) and health care for all 7 billion world citizens. Three billion people make less than $2.00 per day. Microloans for this! (Grameen, Kiva). Ok - your ideas!

Hillary has foot in mouth disease. This from the Liberal Politics guice at About.COM.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
[My comment]
In fine Clintonian politico form, Hillary dodged and
weaved innumerable questions with evasive answers and
obscuring responses. Edwards, Obama, Dodd and Biden
rightfully all accused her of political opportunism
and dishonesty. And they charged her with playing both
sides of the politcal street (i.e. taking both sides
of various issues).

While their accusations were mildly interesting, none
of their charges whacked the mole squarely on the
head. Instead, Hillary the mole whacked herself by
blurting out an immigration issue position 100%
contradictory to one she'd stated merely two minutes
earlier.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
And, there is a consensus of opinion (remember, consensus of opinion proved global warming, according to AlGore, and other Democrats). Even the ultra-liberal NY Times agreed she made a serious boo-boo.

A 18-year-old day laborer who allegedly broke into a Santa Monica condominium and raped a woman when she returned home hours later was ordered to stand trial Thursday. Luis Mario Lopez, who was 17 at the time of the alleged attack, is being prosecuted as an adult on five counts of forcible rape and one count each of forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by a foreign object, first-degree residential burglary and unlawfully taking the victim's car. He was arrested while driving the woman's 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 convertible. Evidence allegedly linking Lopez to the crime was recovered from the Mercedes and his home. The woman was confronted and tied up after she came home to find her condo ransacked. She was repeatedly attacked over a four-hour period, suffering injuries that included a broken nose. Lopez allegedly entered the victim's home some time that morning through a doggie door. He had previously done some work at the 42-year-old victim's home. Santa Monica police Chief Tim Jackman called the crime "vicious and brutal" and said authorities believe the woman was "specifically targeted."

Hello every one,
I am a woman from one of the third world countries who has married an American citizen. I was in suffering and discrimination my whole life in my home land country. I always had American dream to enjoy justice and equality of man and woman. Now I'm here in United State. I can see the beauty of living here, but I'm not allowed to enjoy it. Because my husband is an alcoholic, jealous, pessimistic man who thinks all of men and women want to have sex with me. so, we have no friend here. actually we have no relationship with no body in this country. And I can't divorce him because my citizenship depend on my marriage and husband. please tell me what kind of law it is. and what can I do?
thank you all

and this question is not a joke.

I really mean this. Lets just say that during the Democratic Convention she floated around in mid air and then released razor beams from her eyes which could superheat anything they touch.

Would it be a slam dunk that she would win the election or will she be taken to area 51 for experimentation ?

I just got a notice from the owner of the apartment, saying that he is "entering my house to check for a possible water leak" tomorrow. But the note was written in a quite rude way, it said "enter", not ask for an acceptable time (I know he's the owner but we live here!).
I'm guessing that my portable washing machine inside my apt is using up a lot of water..
I connect it through the faucet in the kitchen sink.
I do about 2-3 loads a day.. (big family)
but I don't know, is it illegal for me to use my own washing machine? I've lived here for 2 yrs and never got in trouble for it..
The apt has a mini laundromat but its hours are not flexible so that's why I bought a mini washing machine.

1. Is using my own mini washing machine in my apartment (in Sunnyvale, CA) illegal?

2. If it is illegal, what should I do/say when the owner visits?

In Bush's own words (or perhaps the words of his speach writers), the war against terrorism is really a war of "Hearts & Minds".

The way the Iraq war is being conducted (by the generals) is actually playing into the hands of the Islamic fundamentalists.

We are using White Phosphorous "Whisky Pete" because it makes the Army generals job easier, but it tarnishes our image in the eyes of the world.

We are repeating the same political & moral mistakes we made in Vietnam....

We are sophisticated enough to fight the insurgents by not having to inflict indiscriminate mass incineration on Iraqi civilians,...we are trusting our generals too much, and they are letting us down.

In this video, it shows testimony from former US Marines, and a British member of Parliment (22:15), that we are using methods outside of the Geneva Convention.

Question:

How can we make our generals do their job in ways that are less convenient for them, but still preserve our moral standing?

2000
1996
1992
1988
1984
1980
and so on

My husband has worked for a restaurant for over 10 years, several times he has worked 2 months straight without any days off and a lot of times working double shifts and has never once been paid overtime. They have even shorted him hours many times as well. My husband isn't one to complain because he mostly relies on tips anyway and isn't one for confrontation but I feel this is a crock. They laid the entire staff off for almost two months while they opened up a new location and had some of the staff come back to prepare for the opening ( about two weeks of work) and did not pay any of them anything at all. Now having him work 80 plus hours a week with no overtime. Most of the staff are working overtime but he is working the most since he is one with most experience.
What can we do so that he will get paid what he is supposed to by law but where they won't find out about him and fire him for complaining? Please help!
