EVERY immigrant mexican in the USA claims to be spanish. I used to believe this until I went to Spain last summer. First it surprised me that everyone in Spain looks "gringo". Then I asked my tour guide about "spanish" and "latino". She told me that people in Mexico are mostly indian and are NOT spanish. She then told me that Spanish people have much more in common with other Europeans (including people from UK, gringos) than mexicans. I then asked her.. but why do both countries speak the same language? She then told me......because you speak spanish doesnt make you "spanish", haitians speak french but that doesnt make them french.

So I guess a mexican claiming to be spanish is like a haitian claiming to be french. Why do mexicans always claim to be "spanish" when they are not?

I don't have much of a work ethic. It's not that I'm lazy, exactly, it's just that I would rather spend my time reading, exercising, watching tv, surfing the internet, etc. What happened to welfare?
I tried it once, but unless you have kids or are disabled, I don't think you can get a cash benefit. It is possible to get food stamps, but that's about it. Maybe I could fake a disability. What's the easiest mental disorder to fake? Maybe I wouldn't even need to fake it. Maybe I am too crazy to work!

Give reason(s) for your choice. I'm especially interested in
other female politicians and any prior First Lady, but, you may also choose celebrities or any other notable people.

Me and 3 friends did a bad thing. We took a pic of a nice car a piano and a set dinner table and then went door to door in a different neighborhood selling raffle tickets saying it was a fund raiser for that neighborhood high school. We told the buyers they dont need to be present to win that winners will be notified so if they get no call then they didnt win. We sold the tickets for 6 dollars each and the prizes were 1st place was the car, 2nd place was the piano and 3rd place was a dinner for two at the restraunt of there choice. We sold all the tickets and made just over 700 dollars. Heres the real problem, one of my friends has had a guilty concience and want us to turn ourselfs in(her too) she is threatening to tell the cops what we did. There isnt even an investigation and we spent the money. I know we did wrong but will this really matter since no one is looking for us and no one realizes anything was done? So any advice?

It seems to me that we are sending societies bravest and britest out to die for a group of people that don't want to change. In my opinion, the blood of the men and women of our military should be gaurded like a national treasure and put at great risk only when necessary.

I found it appalling when I read about the Walter-Reed scandal involving the care of our own serving men and women. But it got even worse when I read that our OWN government has short-changed our serving men and women by the tune of $38B in much needed equipment, training, and shore leaves--just so they can get them to the front faster.

Is this how Bush and his ilk show "gratitude" towards our own military? By screwing them every which way till Sunday?

I mean, you can't conduct a war on the ground, when you willfully *ignore* the needs of our military, and then go on the parrot-talk show route and claim to support them, and then say: "There will be hard and difficult times ahead, and we know the sacrifices our men and women in uniform have to make by defending freedom and democracy at home and abroad."

I don't know about the rest of you, but this makes me *sick*.

And I'm anti-war, anti-government.

The other day whilst I was on the school run, a police officer passed me and I couldnt help but notice that he was texting on a mobile phone, his head was down and was not looking at the road in front!! given the fact that the mobile phone laws had chaged earlier in the week, I fee that something should be done about this.

It was rush hour traffic and there was lots of school children about.
Now had this of been a member of the public they would have been stopped, fined and 3 points added to their license.

What do you reckon? I have writtten a letter of complaint to the cheif superintendent but will this taken seriously??

My husband and little girl both need Social Security numbers. Neither of them have birth certificates. I have finally gotten my little girl a birth certificate but the are wanting more ID to prove that she was born in Canada. My husband was also born in Canada, his mother can't even tell us where he was born. All we have is his Indian Status Card which the american government wont accept as a legal ID (even though this same card allows him to work in the US with documention, nobody wants to hire him withhout a SS #) The Canadian government doesn't want to give us his documents b/c they think he is someone else trying to get false ID. Although none of these documents are needed in Canada, I need this information here to even get them health care. We are getting so frustrated with this that we are looking at moving back to Canada. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm wondering what you folks think of an opinion aricle published by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp's Washington correspondant, on their website.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/reportsfromabroad/macdonald/20070222.html
A quote:
"Actually, exceptionalism is more than merely a doctrine here. It is a deeply held world view that holds across the political spectrum. Remember, it was Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, who articulated America's mission to make the world "safe for democracy," and Bill Clinton who announced in 1998 that America had come to define 'the right side of history.'

For U.S. policy makers, says Prestowitz, this translates into the conviction 'that America is a special country with a mission and special virtue, and therefore it has a duty and a right to try to spread these values, in some cases by force if necessary.'"

My boss asked me what medications I was taking and accused me of being on drugs today amidst a myriad of other things that weren't true. I don't do drugs and told her I"d take a drug test! She forced me to tell her what prescriptions I am taking and then late in the conversation asked me to take a forced involuntary leave of absence! (unpaid) I am going through a rough divorce and have been very emotional (teary eyed) but not high on drugs! I admitted to her being prescribed an antidepressant recently and she kept insisting that I was taking others & that I tell her what else I may or may not be taking by a doctor's direction. Can she legally ask me? She pressured me into telling her what I did with intimidation & fear of losing my employment. I'm already emotional over losing my spouse and now my job!?! She didn't "directly" fire me only asked me to leave after I didn't answer any further. Washington state.

I just did a search of the sexual offenders in my area. There are 7 within a mile of my sons elementary school which is only a mile from our house. There is also one living across the street from his father's apt which is halfway between here and the school. The apts across the street are managed by the same realtor and we were told you could not have felony charged in order to get your application approved.

My point is why are they allowing a sex offender to live there. I can't believe there are that many around us. The worst part is I would always see this wierd looking guy hanging around the school when I would drive by. I always paid attention to what he looked like "just in case"...well, guess whose picture I see on the offenders list. He lives within a quick walk of the school... Why cant they pass a law about people living near schools? Why is this something that even has to be passed? Sickos.

Paula Patient doesn’t want her violent boyfriend to know she’s getting an abortion, so she asks Dr. Bob to send all communications to her post office box and to phone her only at work. What should Dr. Bob do, and what is the legal basis for your advice? If she tells Dr. Bob that not doing this will endanger her, would your answer be different?
