My husband and little girl both need Social Security numbers. Neither of them have birth certificates. I have finally gotten my little girl a birth certificate but the are wanting more ID to prove that she was born in Canada. My husband was also born in Canada, his mother can't even tell us where he was born. All we have is his Indian Status Card which the american government wont accept as a legal ID (even though this same card allows him to work in the US with documention, nobody wants to hire him withhout a SS #) The Canadian government doesn't want to give us his documents b/c they think he is someone else trying to get false ID. Although none of these documents are needed in Canada, I need this information here to even get them health care. We are getting so frustrated with this that we are looking at moving back to Canada. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You need to make a trip to Canada and see his mother. See if you can obtain any school records, birth certificate if possible, and any other information which would establish that he is who he says he is.

Also, since he is First Nation, his band council may also be able to help, or offer suggestions.
