Do we live in a dictatorship? I always thought the US was a democracy? Then why is our president disregarding congress, the Iraq study group, as well as the American people. Dick Cheney himself said "The president has made his decision," and that "We need to get the job done." Contrary to what everyone else wants. Does this not sound like a dictatorship to you?

How does this make sense? There's no conscription. These soldiers knew exactly what they were getting into. They choose to do this so why not hold them accountable for their choices as we would anybody else.

It seems our choice right now is between the Warmonger Party (Republicans) and the Socialists (Democrats). Some choice!

They obviously wanted to help get Hillary's message out so they featured her. I'd be damned if they ever featured George Bush.

First before anyone brings up the legal argument, impeachment doesn't require illegal activity. Impeachment is based on congressional votes and a method to protect the USA against dictatorship.

Second, the new Democratic congress stated they would not impeach Bush; but, at this pt with Bush ignoring Congress, the American ppl, military leaders, etc... what other choice do we have?

Third, Bush (see Cheney quote below) is going ahead with his war plan regardless of what anyone else says or thinks.

"Senate panel opposes Iraq troop increase"

"Vice President Dick Cheney said a Senate vote would not sway the administration. "It won't stop us," Cheney told CNN. "We are moving forward ... in terms of this effort, the president has made his decision.""

Drugs. The ultimate bad choice. But it's a choice - you choose to take drugs. It's not like a virus - you don't "catch" a drug addiction.

We spend tens of millions of taxpayer dollars drilling it into every kid's and adult's head not to do drugs.

Some people listen. Others don't.

The ones who do listen, who play by the rules, grow up and go out and support themselves.

Why should we then make them support the ones who don't? That comes at the expense of those people and their families. Why should we punish people for making the right choice? We should be send the message that even if you don't listen, you'll still be taken care of - on everyone else's dime?

On top of it, it's a fool's errand. They're going to be on the street committing crimes anway - most rehab fails. Without rehab there will be FEWER addicts - or fewer living ones anyway.

I know the junkies' families want them treated but isn't it THEIR responsibility to pay for it?

How is it mine?

GHW Bush turned out to be right. Since his son has some of the same people in his administration and in advisory roles as his father did, why on earth did he do a 180 and invade the entire country and get us into a quagmire his father took great pains, (and some criticism), to avoid?

I keep hearing and reading Leftists who oppose gay marriage bans and other social conservative legislation claim that the government shouldn't legislate morality.

I agree with them on that point.

But I think they are being disingenuous about their philosophy. The welfare state is merely state-enforced charity - it is based on the concept that some people have a moral duty to subsidize others.

We don't all agree on whether that moral duty exists or, even among those who do agree that it exists, on the extent of contribution that ought to be required. On top of it the economics are bad - with the $ you take from me to give to an unemployed widget salesman, I might have bought more widgets....

If you oppose gay marriage bans (as I do) but favor welfare programs, then the reason you oppose gay marriage bans isn't that you don't think the government should legislate morality, it's just that you want it to be YOUR morality.

as an Englishman i am amazed that the US government lies to the nation about the war in Iraq.Clearly the soldiers have been issued with faulty guns & equipment which have had the barrells bent or the laser sightings wrongly adjusted. It alarmed me to see that more British soldiers have been killed by Americans than the enemy.!!!! Their helecopter gunships also have the same problem
!!!.Either that or they are very poor shots you decide

It's wrong that our Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq are having their lives put at risk through lack of equipment. They do a very difficult and dangerous job. The Government talks about doing away with the Red Arrows(I presume to cut costs).
How about:
1.Cutting back on the perks given to the high ranking officers.
2. Making cuts in the Cadet Forces and CCF in Schools.

Opinions?
