If by "dire" you mean "dangerous", certainly. If by "dire" you mean "lost", certainly not.

Whenever you see one word being quoted then it is a sure bet that somebody is trying to deceive you.

BTW - have you noticed that only the negative comments appear in the press? If 9 out of 10 generals are optimistic then you will only hear about the one dissenter.

And I bet you think that the news media is trying to present a fair and accurate picture of events in Iraq too.

I would have to say that any military conflict could be considered "dire." I believe that we are at a crossroads and must make very good decisions. If we cut and run, Iraq will be worse off than when the war started. It will leave them open to not only civil war but for Iran to gain control of the area.

We can debate whether we should have went to war in the first place but I believe that now that we are there, we have to finish the job.

It is getting more dire every day, losing support of the American people and not making any headway in Iraq is causing civil unrest in the country. We need to finish the job and get out of there while the getting is good or there will soon be millions marching in the streets all over the U.S. calling for the war to end. I remember Vietnam real well.
