Asking apropos of a letter to the editor in today's 'National Post.' I grant that the 'National Post' gets some rather unfortunate readers/letter-writers. Just wondering what, if anything, might be behind that.

Saddam was a dictator. We all know that and we all know that because of his orders a lot of people died. For this he will be hung very soon. But I say that he should be given a life sentence and not killed.
Why? OK, I think that a lot of the people in todays world would do what he did if given the chance.

I'm saying that a lot of people would do as he did if they thought that they wouldn't be stopped and thought that they would never have to pay the price for their actions. And by killing him, it would be pointless death. He will never get into power again (if jailed for life) and never be able to hurt people again.

I say death should be for people who actually commit murder with their own hands and only if they do is cruelly and if more than one person is killed and also if it is pre-meditated.

Does anyone agree? I'm not a liberal (I'm actually opposite and I don't say this because of the bible or such).

I have a co worker who swears that her significant other routinely "taps" her phone and listens in on her phone calls. She thinks its a jealousy/possessiveness issue and believes she hears a "click" noise when he is tapping her line.

She is something of a drama queen, so I want to know if she could be right?

Phone company workers... Do you know anyone who taps phone lines for personal reasons? If it happens, why are the perpetrators never caught and prosecuted?

No prior military experience. 33 years old. Have some Information Technology field experience under my belt with Bachelor's degree.
I work out to keep myself in good health.

What kind of job can I get in Coast Guard? Would I be eligilbe for an Officer program if not at least as an enlistee? Or am I just too old?

Also, what's the chance of Coast Guard personnel getting shipped to trouble spots like ME?

My illegal husbad says if I love him I would help him with his papers so he can have a better living and support us better. We are currently living separately, but he tells me constantly to help him get his papers. He treats me nice and tries to show how much he loves me so i don't think he's using me. I constantly hear stories of people in a similar situation only to find out that their partner cheated on them once they got the papers, so that is what scares me and is holding me back. Is it my insecurity, or should I trust him and help him? We're now at this point where he says if I don't help him it shows that I don't care about him and don't want a better life for him, so he will move farther away from me than choose to be with me. What do you think?

The U.S. military recently called a man back into duty after being retired from the army for two years. During those two years he has been attending college and working towards a degree in law. Recently he received a letter from the army wanting him to go to Iraq (he was high up there in ranks, not for sure what he was though). They are going to court over this and the news said he may be put in jail because of it and lose all of his army benefits.

What do you think about something like this? Do you think the army should be allowed to call you back into service after you have been retired?

Thanks for the answers.

The situation is this. A couple came to the US on a temporary VISA,
and had a child here. The son is now a legal american citizen. THe
parents VISA ran out, and they are now illegal immigrants. THey were
refused another visa. The son is now 16 years old, not yet an adult.

Say the parents have been found out and are scheduled to be
deported. They wish to take their son with them back to their
homeland, but the son does not want to go back. He wishes to remain
on US soil and live his life here.

What happens then? WHo wins? The son or the parents. Shouldn't the
son win because he is a legal citizen, and no one has the right to
take him off of US soil if he does not wish it. However, on the flip
side, he is still not an adult.

So i want to know who would win? Logically i think the son should be
allowed to stay here, but knowing our immigration policies, there
probably is some ridiculous loophole where he is going to be forced
back to his homeland with his family.

Thanks.

He stopped including war costs in his fiscal budget to claim defecits were going down. Not only did they go down when he stopped including the costs of the war in Iraq, but they went down further as he dipped into the social security trust fund to pay for tax cuts.

Here is a press release from 12/21/06 where Republican Senator Judd Gregg (current chairmen of the CBO) and others, ask Bush to be up front about the costs of war in Iraq. And this is off the Republican portion of the official CBO website.
