Depends on what you read & believe. It could be strongly argued that the assassinations of Abe Lincoln & John F. Kennedy were coups because radical changes in Federal policy occurred after their deaths. The Impeachment proceedings of Sam Johnson & Clinton could be called coup attempts since the clear aim of both was to change the directions & policies of the Federal Govt of the times.
