No prior military experience. 33 years old. Have some Information Technology field experience under my belt with Bachelor's degree.
I work out to keep myself in good health.

What kind of job can I get in Coast Guard? Would I be eligilbe for an Officer program if not at least as an enlistee? Or am I just too old?

Also, what's the chance of Coast Guard personnel getting shipped to trouble spots like ME?

well, i believe the cut off age for USCG is 35 years old....if you have a degree, they usually want and or need you...the type of job you can get is all depending on your degree, what you know, what jobs they have open and so on...

ANY BRANCH of service can get shipped to a trouble spot, thats if i am reading your question right...like war zones right? my husband is active duty, his ship was sent to Iraq... go see a recruiter and get some info but as far as the age, i think you are coming up on the age limit

Husband came back from deployment....2 coast guard ships were sailing with his navy ship for about 2 months. They deploy as well on ships, but not like the marines or army do on land. And with a bachelor's, you can be sure to be an officer in any branch. Are you thinking you'll go the safe route with the Coast Guard??

Well, you can't just walk in as an officer although you are qualified with a degree. You would have to enlist, and 33 is pretty old compared to the 18-20 year olds you'd be next to. Personally I would not suggest that for a 33 year old, as you would feel you were put in a time machine and go in very low ranking compared to your education and probably your experience.

I didn't know they deployed the Coast Guard to trouble spots. The coast guard sure gets a work out in Florida though. Thank God for them. Your degree is a definite plus and I recommend you talk to a recruiter and with that degree I wouldn't accept anything less than a commission.
