Daddy

That song takes me back, back
to a happier time when the
sun shown it's happy face upon
when I would wait for
you, for what seemed years.
You lifted me high and twirled
me around so fast. Remember how
we laughed? My dad, the superhero,
the angel who could do no wrong.
The Viet Nam vet of whom I am so proud.
A time I long for again, to be a
little girl in the green grass
with the sun playing upon the flowers
That was the time forever etched in
my memory, where I can go home again.

Why is it I have not heard one Conservative/Republican admit that going into Iraq was a mistake? Or not even that going into there was a mistake but going into there with the plan we went into there with was a mistake? Then, why when we see how bad it is over there losing people everyday their response something like "It will be bad if we just pulled out" or "The Democrats/Liberals don't have a better plan to bring the troops home" when it was the Democrats/Liberals that tried not to go in there in the first place? Furthermore, had we not gone in there would we have had a better response to the Nuclear Iran and N. Korea?

Why don't the politicians and "on air talent" drop Rush and Fox from the debate and discuss the isssue; embronic stem cell research?

This entire campaign has been focusing on the actors (Foley, Rush, Fox, and the candidates running for office) rather than the issues at hand (ESC Research, the economy, the wars, etc.)

I'm being told by my boss that following certain procedures of the new corporation isn't necessary and that I should use my best judgement (doing as previous employer's policies and procedures were). Curious if doing so will come back to bite me.

What qualifications do you need? I am asking on behalf of my niece who took and participated in several music courses, choirs, and bands throughout high school. She plays multiple instruments and is an accomplished singer and dancer. She is very good, but her grades weren't good enough to qualify for a scholarship...not bad...just not great. Her family does not have the money to send her to college to get her degree in music. I know the military will help her get the college credits AND she can use the discipline it will instill in her. Any thoughts? Any cautions on recruiter promises, etc.?

(10/26/06 - LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - An immigrant from Africa has gone on trial on charges alleging he circumcised his 2-year-old daughter with a pair of scissors to avoid bringing shame on his family.

It appears to be a groundbreaking prosecution for a case of female genital mutilation in the U.S., said Taina Bien-Aime, executive director of Equality Now, a New York-based human rights group that focuses on violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world.

Khalid Adem could face 40 years in prison if convicted in Gwinnett County on the charges of aggravated battery and cruelty to children.

Prosecutor Marty First acknowledged that Adem, who was born in Ethiopia, is from a culture that practices female circumcision.

"But circumcision is just a nice way of saying mutilation," First told the jury in his opening statement Tuesday. "There is no doubt that she was mutilated. And this is not something you go to a doctor and do because no doctor will do it. He did this to his own baby."

The practice, a tradition in some African cultures, is widely condemned by human rights groups and has been outlawed in the United States since 1997.

Police have said that Adem used scissors to circumcise his daughter in their Duluth apartment in 2001. The child's mother said she didn't discover it until more than a year later.

"He did not do that. He never wanted it to happen," defense attorney W. Mark Hill told the jury. "He will tell you that. And that only leaves two people. The people who were primarily taking care of the child. The mother and the grandmother."

First said the girl told Gwinnett County authorities that her father cut her. The prosecutor quoted Adem as saying in late 2002 and early 2003 that if the girl were not circumcised, "it will be a shame to the family."

"He said he wanted (the girl) to have it done so that she will not be promiscuous," First added. He also said Adem implied he had already circumcised the girl.

Hill denied Adem ever made any of those statements and asked how the victim's mother could not have known for more than a year that the girl was circumcised.

Hill said Fortunate Adem's allegations stem from a nasty divorce and a custody battle over the girl.
