i want to see first hand all of these horrible things that are going on in the world. danger is not a concern of mine, i dont care if going to the place is dangerous.
i have been to panama, kuwait, and iraq with the military so this wouldnt be my first time in a strange country.
i want to see for myself what is going on in the world. africa is supposobly a horrible place right?
if i went on a trip like this how much would it cost me? what would i be doing (my skills are driving a tractor trailor, computer operation, and just plain old muscle power)? what country or place in the world would i find the most shocking?
thanks for the answer.

If I wanted to be a missionary, I would head for Africa. I recently toured South Africa and some of the other countries nearby, and those people really need help. Interestingly, the government is providing some support, but it isn't near enough. So, if you could work with the government to teach people a trade, that would certainly be beneficial. However, not having been a missionary, I wouldn't know where to start. Have you looked into Americorp? I am not sure I spelled it correctly, but it's a program President Clinton started to either replace or supplement the Peace Corp. Good Luck.
In terms of cost, we were on a tour, so the fare, etc. was expensive. However, I wouldn't think the airfare would be all that much to South Africa. Checkout South African Airlines online.

Why does everyone want to go somewhere else? Do you really think the "messed up places" are somewhere else? They are all around you. Bloom where you are planted. Bring peace and joy to the stranger that you meet everyday. Peace begins with each of us right where we are. Look next door to the lonely, the tired, the parent who is stress and needs a break before they abuse their child, the poor that try to keep up a good appearance so you don't know, people in need are all around us. We are God's hands, we are God's ears and eyes and we are the ones that are to bring His love to all the people we meet. We don't even have to walk out the front door. Start where you are. Mother Teresa just worked where she was. If we all did this, there would be no 'messed up places' in the world.

Definitely some parts of Africa. It woud be incredibly dangerous. It won't cost you anything if you go with the Peace Corps. But since you've served in the military I don't think they will take you. You will have to find some non-profit organization like unicef for example. But these organizations are not going to send people to the really bad spots. That is something that rogue-missionaries do.

Africa
Specifically Sudan right now where theyre having genocidal wars
but many countries in Africa have big problems
aids , wars, poverty
You name it and a country in Africa prolly has it
But as they say "charity begins at home" we have lots of screwed up people and happenings here
And with Bush as President the poor need more help then ever
Just look at how bad off New Orleans still is

To be honest, first u need to look right in your own neighborhood and see if there are starving hungry elderly or single parent families that need help.
There are also folks still in USA that still have no toilets or running water. We need to start at home first and let the missionaries attend to Africa and other countries.

I don't know where is most shocking...but, I found it hard to even locate a way to volunteer. Peace Corp and some missionary work is all I could find to do this. You need money for the missionary stuff and I don't know much about the Peace Corp.

If I were young and willing like you, I would go to Darfur. What I have read and seen and heard are amazingly shocking. I don't think enough people are involved. So your efforts, would probably do a lot of good.
Kudos for having the drive to do this. Please let us know what you find out. Sorry, I have no idea what it would cost.

Darfur. While the US is kicking the can around in Iraq and rattling sabers with N. Korea, thousands of innoocent women and children are being raped, starved, and murdered by warlords. No one is doing anything about it.
