It is not a "mandatory" benefit, unless your company states it in your "benefit package."
Ask your immediate supervisor if it is a "compensation" to you, or if it is taken from your "sick-leave or vacation time," that you have accrued.
Some companies do have a program for this, and some don't!
Your company may not be "obligated" if it is an "At-Will" employer.
To be safe now and in the future; request a copy of your "employee handbook," so you will know exactly what you are/or not entitled to receive as a "benefit."
Sorry for your loss, and good luck in the future.....

Pay- no. A day off- yes. Usually you receive one day for grandparents/aunts/uncles and extended family. If it is mom/dad/brother/sister/spouse you receive 5. It is up to the company that you work for to decided how long they want to give you.

Entitled is the wrong word. You are not "entitled" to bereavement pay. At my work, they make us use our vacation time! Sucks to be us.

Company policy varies, ask your supervisor. Generally yes for grandparent for funeral only! Not extended leave.
