With accusations of virtual kidnapping, coercing and bribing governmental officials of third world countries, have things gotten out of hand? Is some kind of international reform needed?

I'm truly sorry that anyone thought this was a stupid question, but I believe that someone needed to ask it. Who was it that said there are no stupid questions, but only stupid answers? I know I've read that somewhere. Do you suppose it's true? Also, in a philosophical sense, do you believe that the ends justify the means?

This is a good question...thanks for asking.
I have mixed emotions on this subject.
On one hand. I applaud them for being able and also wanting to help a child by adoption. And there are so many out there who will surely die without any help.
But..on the other hand.....and I know this may offend some, and I am sorry if I do, but we have children right here in our own backyard dying also. From disease, starvation, drugs.....there are children abandoned daily or abused and taken away from the parents. What happens to these kids?
I think for the celebrity...its a mater of being able to show this child off because the child is a different heritage. I think its a "look what I've just done" sort of thing and although that child will have a better life, why not try and fix the problems right here too?
Just my thoughts.......thanks again.

When most celebrities adopt, they adopt from orphanages. If anyone had read the most recent stories about Madonna's adoption scandal they would know that her son was also in an orphanage and that she had to track down the absent father to get his permission to adopt. He went to court and had the entire adoption procedure explained to him in his own language by a court official and signed the documents. What he said to the reporters was that he wished he could still have his son- he does not speak English well and he has recently told a translator that he wishes he could have kept his son, but he knew he was better off and that's why he did what he did. If a child is sick and starving in an orphanage, why wouldn't it be ok for someone who had the means to do so to take them in?

As for those of you answering that they need to adopt the kids in our own country that need a home first, let me put something into perspective for you.

It can cost up to 10 times as much to adopt a child from another country than it does to adopt one within our country. There are thousands of couples out there right now that for one reason or another connot conceive a child, but don't make 20 million dollars per job they do, either. The children in our own country without homes are because of the stiff adoption laws- NOT the fact that the celebrities are going overseas to adopt. Every child in this country could have a loving home if our government would take the time to overwrite some of their laws and look into foster/adoptive parents' backgrounds a little better.

Also, a child is a child is a child- what makes the orphans in our own country of any more importance than the orphans of other, poorer countries where people are having a hard enough time feeding their own children that they can't afford to take on the task of feeding another? Every child-regardless of place of birth, skin color, religion, health, etc has the right to a loving home and if one is being offered to a child, who are we to say that's wrong? Look in the eyes of some of these orphans that have been adopted by celebrities and tell THEM that they should go back to their orphanages and starve because OUR government can't get their ducks in a row long enough to keep up with our orphans.

If this is about Madonna, she has donated millions to build orphanages. As has Opray Winfrey to bring these children medicine and blankets and food. Something these governments were unable to do. They have no parents because they simply abandoned them. That child had been in there 18 months and his father never once visited him. Those children would have all died of starvation and disease by now if not for the generous contributions of her. The average age in there is 5 years old to live. In a country where most men die before 32 and women live to the rip old age of 34. To take a child out of this situation you call a crime? You are very misinformed about what it actually going on in these countries.
In durfer 25,000 children were kidnapped by government people to let the men use as sex slaves. They usually die in their teens from abuse. Having arms and legs hacked off at the slightest provocation. They are now starving by the millions. If you want some kind of international help and reform I suggest feeding these children and getting them into an orphanage.
One man said when she got there this little boy had pneumonia and they sit him aside to die. She took him to a hospital where he could get penicillin and survive. So if she didn't do what she did he would be dead and you wouldn't be writing such a stupid question.

i think it's a good thing they adopt but they should have all the facts first. the whole maddona thing it is out of control. back in the 20's the parents of children would send thier kids to the orphanage to make sure they were fed because in many cases they couldn't afford them. circumstances change all the time one day they could be poor then the next they are stable with a job. with the economy the way it is it's the same now. in other countries they may place children in the orphanage to feed them if this is so then the adoptive parents should need the ok from the real parents before adoption and definatly before taking them out of the country!

Accusations? I'm not a big fan of the latest celebrity fashion accessory but everyone still has a presumption of innocence in this country. BTW - what is a virtual kidnapping.

As far a bribing - that is no different from open adoptions in this country. I think the adoption industry worldwide is preying upon desparate couples that can't conceive children of their own. They are required to submit tax returns, asset statements, pay stubs, bank statements, info on investment and 401K accounts. They are required to produce a heafty retainer and then pay all the birth mother's expenses (and anything else she may need to "get back on her feet"") without any guarantee of adopting the child. Two of my friends have gone through this process after having gone through unsuccessful IVF attempts. It sick, twisted and immoral what the adoption agencies do today.

Goodness no thats how it got this way in the first place. Over regulated system of adoption has made it hard to place children in homes where they will be taken care of. These days only rich people can afford to adopt. I think you are referring to the uproar over Madonna's adoption of the little boy from Malawi. It is an unusual adoption in that the child has a parent most have none. Sometimes in other countries the payoff is the most important thing, they dont run things there the way we do, so the rules that would apply here dont apply there. She didnt kidnap that child the media followed her everywhere and his father said he wanted the child to go with her. It is then his business and hers. More international reform and most people will be unable to adopt and more children will die in undeveloped countries.

YES, definately, infinately, intolerably YES! We have so many starving and parentless children HERE in our own country, what the heck do they need to go and make a big media blitz about some little country adoption??? Get of thier high horses and help our own kids, right here on our own soil. Yes we need some kind of international adoption reform, but it will never happen.

I was adopted by a great couple who helped by foster parenting 22 other children, some of those children went on to better homes and some did not, but while they were living with us they were treated better than they had ever been.

i ought to purely watch a couple of minutes of the YouTube clip. the image that got here to suggestions became that of strolling via a locker room communication in some severe college, the place the lads have been attempting to impact the lady and vice versa sounding knowledgeable via nature of their complaint, as though severe affiliation with authority alongside with infantrymen bestowed a a strategies better rank. To me it extremely is not properly worth commenting on or to renowned the rant with interest. Humor crosses the line on the intersection, the place the 1st hen crossed the line and had a perilous accident. It fairly became no longer humorous for that hen, no count what the rationalization, no count what others say, and no count what punishment is meted out to the driving force who committed involuntary hen slaughter. otherwise humor crosses the line, the place it turns into mere wittiness at ultimate and the place it lacks sensitivity and compassion. Humor makes mild of the human condition. If rather it looses internet site of humanity, then it seizes to be humorous. people who then nonetheless laugh tutor a depressing component that demeans the human condition (or, if we assume the final, are hiding their embarrassment with laughter in keeping with possibility), while humor uplifts the human condition interior the midst of its absurdities. Now, it extremely is as severe as i'm waiting to get approximately humor on the previous due hour of writing out those suggestions. i'm attempting to maintain a strict humorousness here, and that's no longer humorous.

I would imagine that adopting from third world countries imparts a sense of saving the child from a horrific life. Yes we have orphanges in the States, our orphans aren't dying while in State care. Maybe since we are all talking about the adoption issue, it will bring to light the conditions and circumstances of those in third world countries.

It's not that bad. Sure some of the celebrities are adopting foreign children because it is the "in" thing to do, but they are taking a child out of a terrible situation and giving them a much better life than they would ordinarily have. There are much worse things to worry about than this.
