MADRID, Spain — A Spanish university professor with a long beard and dark complexion said Thursday he was briefly forced off an airliner during a layover on the Spanish island of Mallorca by passengers who feared he was an Islamic terrorist.

Pablo Gutierrez Vega said he was humiliated when three German passengers on an Air Berlin flight approached him during a layover in Palma de Mallorca on Aug. 30 en route from Seville, Spain, to Dortmund, Germany, and asked to search his carry-on luggage.

The men told him that other passengers were frightened by his appearance, said Gutierrez Vega, 35, a law professor at the University of Seville.

"They treated me like an Islamic terrorist because of my appearance," Gutierrez Vega said

On the runway, the pilot apologized for the incident and said he could would take Vega's luggage into the cockpit to pacify the other passengers.

I agree that we need a change in leadership and that our government has caused problems here and abroad. (Yet that seems to be that case with most countries governments as well). But what gets me mad is when US citizens constantly bash on this country. Yes, give your opinion and work and vote to make a difference but have some respect as well. It is the country you have CHOSEN to live in and if you don't like it you are welcome to move. As a child with a mom from Guatemala and a dad from Russia, I have pride in knowing my roots are in those places. But I am mostly proud to be an American born and I am first that before anything. I know my options and I CHOOSE them and respect them. I guess I just wish to see this country United and Patriotic. Travel to a country that doesnt have the freedoms and amenities the US has and you'll learn to respect what you have.

The reason why I ask this is becuse, most pepole (expecally up north) Get this ideal that a illegal immagrant is comming here for work, comming here to prosper...
But the fact is, most of them are here to pool of our nations 'wealth'...and it is killing our economy. Welcome to the new China....except its us getting laid off in our own country...and being replaced by illegals.
Please tell me your opinions...Im open to all sides of the corn field.

After the defence of Rorke's Drift in January,1879 seven Victoria Crosses were awarded to the defenders. I understand it has long been believed that this was a political decision by the government against the recommendations of the Army, to take public attention away from the disaster of Isandalwana. Now there is talk of a similar situation in Afghanistan with the award of a large number of decorations to our servicemen/women serving there. I appreciate that our soldiers have proven their bravery on many occasions but am wary of anything this goverment 'spins' about Afghanistan or Iraq.
