I'm writing my final dissertation for a degree in Politics, I am particularly interested in International Security and terrorism and have specialised in these areas alongside American politics and International Relations. Problem is, I can't find a dissertation topic! I know how to go about researching, but I need suggestions of topics for inspiration!!!

How do you help save the world from all the impending disaster and doom we hear of, from our own destructive selves? On individual and communal levels. Almost every society and civilization has collapsed soon after its peak. What will save us? And don't anyone say God or some kind of divine being will save us or just have faith because God only helps those who help themselves anyway right?

Why is Sadam Hussiens AIDES ( underlings ) being charged, If they where OBEYING ORDERS.
Look at ENGLAND an OFFICER in the AIR FORCE refuses to go because he believes the war is ILLEGAL
What do they do put him in jail for DISOBEYING an order
Good job the law stopped them from SHOOTING him.
In Iraq you could be shot for disobeying an order
So if they where obeying orders how can you prosecute them for war CRIMES

So what the English are saying is
If you disobey an order refuse to go and fight,
Possibly kill others in the war.
YOU WILL BE COURT MARTIALED
So obey ORDERS thats ok no
charges or sentence
you are a GOOD SOLDIER
you OBEY ORDERS.
nothing will happen to you
Sadam Hussein gives orders they are OBEYED
they are BAD SOLDIERS
Now they face the DEATH PENALTY for OBEYING ORDERS

My SON is in the BRITISH ARMY
If he felt it was an illegal and imoral war
and did not want to go then believe he should have the right to say so
This war is unjust and ilegal

As in ... no terrorist attacks or bombs necessary... self destruct? Where is our trust? Maybe lost in the New York Times selling us out? Lost in an age of "fair and balanced" 24/7 news that isn't so fair or balanced on any channel? Sensationalism at its best or at its worst at the countries expense? Both sides (Repub/Demo) news slanted organizations are guilty... an intelligent response, not political, is warranted here for the best answer.

Mexico needs to walk the walk.

My husband is a colour seargant in the royal marines and has to go out there for 3 months as part of the governments idea to 'send more troops'
I am totally pi**ed off about this, even though I know it's his job , I am very stressed out and worried.
Instead of sitting behind a desk and sending troops why don't the MP's go out and see what it's like for themselves!!!!!!!

Should we have a new Constitutional Convention?

It appears impossible to block destructive lobbying, pork barrel legislation that has caused 8 + tril in debt, excessive campaign spending that nets the same politicians at 90% + incumbancy. Politicians seem to ignore the long term public good in favor of short term public opinion / 2 or 6 year solutions to serious long term problems.

How about a Senate (not elected) but appointed by academia - experts in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.), Efficiency experts, Statisticians, Public Policy experts, Philosophers, Physicians, Business prof. etc... People that would not only know how to hold a serious fact finding hearing, but would understand the solutions necessary for society re: long term needs

Allow this knowledgable Senate a parliamentary status to elect a prime minister from its midst to be the executive and a cabinet from this inteligencia.
The house stays democratic to voice public needs and advise the Senate

In the light of the Government's energy review, due to be published today and the expected announcement of a new generation of nuclear plants, partly to ensure energy security through reducing reliance on imported gas, it seems no one has considered the impact domestic gas use has on CO2 emissions and reliance on imported supplies.

Naturally, The common people dont want war....but after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy, all you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It all works the same in every country.
