On the Republican side the early favorites are Paul Allen and Newt Gingrich. I would personally go with Newt because the Democrats love to hate him.
We would most certainly pick up still more seats in the house under Gingrich as the voters would be turned off by the hateful comments comming from Democrats directed toward the new president. That would be a replay of tactics used by George W Bush and Ronald Reagan who both played the liberals like a fiddle.
On the Democratic side the nominee will certainly be either Al Gore or Hillary Clinton. They have all the money and the support of the left wing hardliners who will control the nomination process. Unfortunately for the Dems, neither one of them are electable.
