Are Americans truly that self absorbed and shallow?

It is a French word that keeps coming up in the novel I'm reading. The context of the sentence seem to imply something like capish or do you follow me, etc. The sentence is as follows: "We'll know when she comes back, chtopak."

A short while ago, a number of people who were opposed to Britain (& the US) fighting the taliban in Afghanistan declared Jihad (holy war) on Brit & US. The issue was is that these people ACTUALLY came from Britain! So off they went leaving their homes and family behind in England to train in Pakistan and then engage the Brit/US troops in Afganistan. After these people had felt they had 'done their worse' they would come back to the UK and go about their daily lives until they had their 'call to arms' again! TRUE

My questions are: firstly how as British people can we/did we let these people get away with this high treason of attacking our boys (defenders of the crown) and class themselves as british indeed holding UK pssports? Should we have let them come back to this country knowing what they are/were doing? And as a brit how do you feel knowing that your taxes etc are helping pay for the welfare through benefits etc of these people who are quite clearly showing they arent with us?

this is due to foreigners ,in foreign registered cars ,leaving a trail of tickets ,congestion fee s.speeding fines behind ??? if it was us we would be in court!!!! whats ur view ,this info was from a traffic warden ..........bnp forever !! your laws are being flouted .

This is all we know right now. We are in Vancouver Canada and she is a Swedish Citizen. We have contacted the Swedish Embasy but we don't even know what the charges and they have no knowledge of the incident. She contacted some of her friends in Chile that she had been staying with and they contacted us by phone. The friends from Chile only told us that she was arrested on Friday and she sounded nervous on the phone.

I figured i would post this since 4th of july is tomorrow. I think an American is someone who is proud of their country and happy where they come from, someone who would do anything for their country.

I am Mexican-American that was born and raised in the US. I am very happy to be a part of the US and no my parents/grandparents/ or greatgrandparend did not jump/swim/sneak over here. (i hate to hear that cause its ignorant) But ive posted questions before and there is a lot of racist people. I just want to know what people think an American is.

Why is it that the American government invaded Iraq, who they THOUGHT had weapons of mass destruction, but when North Korea openly acknowledges that they have them, and are testing long-range missiles that can possibly hit the US, we stand idle?

Also, the US and UN are so preoccupied with Iran's secret nuclear ambitions even though North Korea is threatening a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

i dont understand why conservatives are so obssessed with kerry. when bob dole lost to clinton, that was the last you heard of him from liberals. could it be that deep down conservatives know he was a better candidate and wish they had there vote back?

i am making this really sweet powerpoint presentation about america. it has some really touching quotes and poems about america and i included some of the tragedies that affected america in the past. anyway, one slide is titled "America the Beautiful" and I want some pictures that show how beautiful America is. So far, I have the white house w/ us flag in background, the statue of liberty, mt. rushmore w/ flag background, and the golden gate bridge. what else can i include? any suggestions will definitely help. also any suggestions on what else to include in the overall presentation would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

To me it seems like ISRAEL is behaving like a Terrorist but at a National Scale! Since ISRAEL is never gonna release them (Women & Children) , I feel the Hamas Militants should not waste time negotiating with ISRAEL - Slaughter Cpl. Gilad Shalit and grow his meat to the poor starving animals (dogs & cats) in Palestine; that would be more fruitful!

A major reason why this community is behind is the illiteracy among the muslim woman. A society will progress if and only if the woman in that society literate . Major part of the muslim word where the developed countries are now fighting against terrorism has this problem. Instead of pouring billions of dollars in this war if these countries could think of this option , the situation would have been different. (sorry my English is not that much fluent but I am trying to express my feelings) . If any one take steps in this direction that would certainly become a major step towards world peace.

I have posted some questions about my lovers and made the comment that the black men I have been with are overly 'large' and extrememly well-endowed.

Yahoo removed all my questions and sent me admin notices about the content of my posts.

Although some of the answers i received had obcenities and graphic language, my posts didn't.

I know that no other flag is supposed to fly at a higher level than the U. S. Flag. I remember reading that that in a group of flagpoles (ex. U. S., State, and Organization) that if the U. S. Flag is flown at half-staff, then the other two must also be flown at half-staff in order to not be flown at a higher level. I recently brought this to attention of the pastor a church that has a grouping of three flagpoles, with the U. S. Flag being in the center and also on the the tallest flagpole. I told him that, according to my understanding, they incorrect and was told that it didn't matter as long as the U. S. Falg was at half-staff. I did not agree with him, but could not prove my point.

I have since been searching many sources for this information, and have not been able to find sufficient information to prove my understanding of the proper manner of display of the Flag in this type of situation.

If anyone can help me answer this question, it would be greatly appreciated
