Most politicians see oil supply as an issue of national security. However, it would not be politically correct to say that we are going to invade a country to protect our oil supply or some other economic interest. The public has to be pumped up with grandiose ideas of protecting democracy, wiping out WMDs, or removing a ruthless dictator as a method of garnering the necessary support necessary to carry out such an invasion. As you point out, there are dictators who have no oil but pose a significant threat because they have WMDs such as North Korea. But what would happen to American business interests if China retaliated in some way? While it might not be the only consideration, economics plays a large part in the decision making process of how to respond to a threat. Bush thought that the US would be economically benefiting from the Iraq invasion by now. After all, who would not want Democracy? I believe he thought that by now all resistance would have long passed and US businesses would have all kinds of opportunities to benefit from the invasion with minimal loss of American lives. He had visions of a strong democracy replacing a dictatorship that would have strong economic ties to the United States. It just did not work out that way as we have all seen.

I was watching a special on the History Channel the other day, about when George Bush Sr. fought with Saddam when he invaded Kuwait, and one official said that for 'all' of the administrations of the White House, even those before GW Sr.s, it has been a policy of protecting the fuel and power supply to the United States. At least that's what I understood him to say.

In a way, it's understandable, at least to me. I don't claim that the religious culture of this country to be 'the right one'. But if it hadn't been for the U.S., there would be more communist dictated countries in the world right now. And the U.S. IS INTERESTED in world peace. There is no better way to ensure world peace than for the U.S. to stay in power. To those that do not understand this, you just wait. Some day this country may not be in power, and let's say China get's to be the power of the world; what kind of world do you think this could become?

because you can sell the stuff at quite a high profit. it is even more profitable if you steal it.

it is like dope.If we cut off the demand the price will drop.
if USA stops using so much, they will lose the market and lower the price and stop fighting over that stuff.

Bush is an OIL man and so is his family and friends. they see oil as liqued gold. we never should have elecetd a member of the big oil clan to be our president so it is no wurpeize that he is staring wars to get it. maybe argentina will be next. Oh wait. IRAN has more oil than anybody. i think they need some more democracy there and good Christian values so lets all go kill them.

Because those dictators controlled countries with great reserves of Oil and since the OPEC dictates the prices for the crude he wont buy oil at high prices , Bush doesnt want his oil to run out, thats why he looks out for those countries with dictators to overthrow them with the excuse and bullshit about liberty, freedom, and democracy and later on to appoint a president which he controlls too, what he gets? a new State, and a lot of OIL !!
