My Syrian hamster runs constantly on her wheel, and she never wants to be handled.
She lets me PET her, no problem, its just that when I go to pick her up, she runs away. Either that, or she just simply won't come off her wheel.

And if I DO ever get her out, I have a special 'play cage', which is just a separate 4-level cage made of metal where I have many toys and obstacles for her to play with.

HOWEVER, she just chews on the cage bars, which I know is very unhealthy for her.

I want her to run around and play with other toys, but she doesn't.

I have tried a few things, but I don't know what else to try.

PLEASE HELP!!
Thank you SO SO SO much in advance!!

:)

My hamster is about six months old. Tonight I noticed that his bottom really seems to stick out on both sides under his tail. I did some research and found that Syrian male hamsters have testicles that are noticeable. I'm not sure if this is just normal or something more. I don't really want to pay the vet $50 to find out it is normal anatomy. Does anyone have any experience or advice to offer?

My father will not allow me to keep pet rats because he believes that if they eat meat then they will kill us. I don't believe this is true. Does anyone have some real evidence that this is true/not true?

I got 2 female rats about a month ago. one of them let's me pet her, but when i open the cage, the other darts under the bedding. when i try to clean their cage, i can't get them out to actually scrub it good. they won't let me pick them up. i play with them everyday, but they won't let me pick them up. when i grab a hold of them, and when i'm just about to put my other hand beneath them to support their feet, they jump out of my hand! what should i do??

Would getting a rat from petco or other pet store be okay? I can't find any adoption place (don't know the exact phrase) or rat breeders anywhere close to where I live, otherwise that's where I'd be getting a rat. From your experience are petco rats okay? Also, what should I look for in a rat?

I introduced my new guinea pig to my 2 other guinea pigs in a nuetral area yesterday, I did it on the couch like cavy spirit said. They stayed there for about 30 minutes and seemed fine, so I placed them in a play pen for the rest of the day. I checked on them regularly and everything seemed fine so I placed them in the cage. I went and checked on them this morning and they do not seem to be getting along (see my other question). I read somewhere about this technique that can be used with problem guinea pigs. What you do is place them in a bath, all 3 of them, wash them all with a safe shampoo, dry them and try to introduce them again. You then have to wash the cage thoroughly with vinegar and water to get rid of any scents. This article was written for boars but I am desperate, what are your views on this idea? Here is the link: http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm#Introductions
You need to scroll down to the article which says the piggys who bath together stay together.

please dont say she takes bad care of them, she takes wonderful care of them, but the hamster just got its foot stuck in its wheel and got scared so she chewed it off, the hamster doesnt seem like it is in any pain at all, it has not lost its appetite. since it lost its foot and walks just fine, so do you think it will be ok? (btw she got rid of the wheel)

My guinea pigs have passed on just recently and I am looking into getting another furry friend. I do have a cat( but she has never bothered my guinea pigs) so this means I can't have something like a ferret, who needs to be able to roam the house. What would be a good rodent or other small animal to have in these circumstances?

O-k, my Mommy Mouse Gloria, gave birth to 11 healthy baby's.... almost 2 weeks ago.... well now this has never happened before ever out of all of her litters. i think she might have abandoned a very healthy baby.. The baby rolled out of the nest and cant climb back in so she is ignoring it. its all alone and cold and she just passes it by... it might die!
so i thought maybe i can put them in a separate cage together... but i might face the chance of her eating it from not excepting it... or of it starving and being cold. I cant hand raise it. so my dad says that if she doesn't end up keeping it, its going to be a feast for one of are water dragons.....
Do you think I 'm on to a good plan or is there anything i could do without abandonment of the whole litter?!

They are so cruel and a grille broke my cousin's hamster's foot. I know I wouldn't want to walk on a grill with bars smaller than my toes and gaps between the bars wider than my foot. Not to mention most of the cages that have these do not provide any place for the hamster to rest except for perhaps the food bowl. what a sad life. All for "ease of cleaning" with a pull out tray beneath the grille.

I have a female rat who will be 2 in October is it still safe for her to have babies? Or is she too old and would it put too much stress on her? She is very active and gentle. She is housed with her sister, and I know she would have to be separated for her pregnancy. If she can this would be her first litter.

I just bought a guinea pig today from a petstore well, she was in a cage w/ a guinea pig from her litter & 2 other guinea pigs from another litter.

Well, she's old enough to leave her mother (Obvisouly) but, I was wondering if there is any chance my guinea pig could get pregnant. They didn't tell me how old she was and they didn't know when I asked. So, I'm a little stuck.

Well, my other question is that how can I tell if she's a male or female? They checked her gender & they said we "believe" she is a female but we aren't %100 sure. Well, thats another I have to know if she is pregnant or not.

I'm not sure if this will help or not but, her nipples are quite large. As big as my almost 4 (On August 1st) month old kitten.

I'm very confused & if she is pregnant, I'll be very excited & I know they have extremely hard births which me & my boyfriend will have the funds to take her to the vet.

Not the big, wild rats. But pet rats. They are so cute and affectionate. And I was afraid of the tail until I got one and its just like a cats tail but with hardly any hair (the hair is clear) So, what are you, or why do you think other people, are repulsed by rats??

Thanks :D

I use LM Animal Farms Classic Blend Hamster Food for my two dwarfs. The younger hamster is more alert when I give put the food in the ceramic cup. She goes running after it and eats all she cans, leaving very little for the other hamster. I'm wondering how many tablespoons of hamster food should I serve?
