I live in a one bedroom apartment with rats. I'd like another pet that's personable like a cat, but wont be a danger around my rats. What would be a good pet for me?

My mouse constantly scratches, to the point where she is bleeding. I don't know what to do! I feel so bad for her. I haven't changed the type of bedding she uses, so i don't think it's that. I was thinking maybe mites, but I don't see anything on her. Can you see mites? Please help!

Ok I have this idea but I doing some research. My thought is that rats are interesting individuals or are intelligent and need stimulation. I cringe when I see boring rat cages. My idea is to build a series of a cages hopefully would like to inter connect with some sort of habitrail or tubing. I want to include a sort of play area with clothesline for climbing and parrot ladders and all sort of fun ratties things to do. I do need a little advice and ideas on how to put it all together.
Problem 1 rats are the houdinis are of the rat world as us rattie lovers know so how to make it escape proof.
2 Does anyone know where I could get rat sized tubing or habitrail type items? The hamster size are much to slender for my fat girls.
3) I also want to make some hammocks but I don't have any direction.
4) Other easily made rat toys that are safe and fun for them. .

Hi there!

I just adopted two baby male rats and I am very excited about it! I have never owned rats before and I was wondering what the best way to raise them is. I want to make sure they grow to love me and that they are very happy and healthy.

Thank you =)

The only vet clinic in my county does not treat rats and my parents won't take her to another clinic until next month. I have read in some places that I can use bird lice spray, so I did, but I am worried about her. She is very small still, only about 5 inches long all together including tail. If I shouldn't have used the lice spray on her will it hurt her and what else can I do for her until next month, the lice seem to irritate her badly. She hasn't reacted to the lice spray yet.

I am sitting at my computer and my gerbil climbed up my trousers, onto my lap, then up my belly and my chest, onto my shoulders, up my neck and sat on my head where she began to groom my hair. She's a legend! I've been thinking of setting up a massage parlour where gerbils come in and groom people. Would you pay for that?

Everybody thinks rats are "gross" and "ugly", it's really sad, but they are really adorable and nice...

My rat, ester boo, died 2 days ago in my hands. I held her and pet her head while she was passing. My brother was here while this happened and I was crying, obviously, because she was my baby. He told me to quit crying over a rat and when I told other people about it they were like "so get another one" or similar things. I just want to know how some people can be so insensitive to the lose of a pet no matter what kind. Most people with pets think of them as family as I did. Do you guys have any bad experiences with people minimizing your love for your rat? Or people telling you how gross they are? How do you deal with it? What do you say to them? I am sorry this is so long I am just frustrated and still upset that she is gone. Thanks

When I decided to breed my gerbils, I had planned on two litters. I intended on putting the males with their father and females with their mother and separating them into two cages before the birth of the second litter, so that the father or sons couldn't impregnate the mother after she gave birth to her new litter. A friend of mine did this and said that female pups are great at helping their mother with younger siblings. In my case however, of the six pups of the first littler that were born on June 6th, sadly only three survived and as Murphy's law would have it all three are male. My female is now pregnant with her second litter and if possible, I would prefer not to have a third. Can she raise the new babies on her own without too much stress?
