They should have at least 1 hour each day in a large room. You can invest in a play pen from a baby store (or something of the sort) if you wish to do floor time outside. Balls and wheels are off limits and should not be used due to the potential spinal damage. If you have a really small cage then they will need more floor time compared to a guinea pig that has a really big cage.

The area in which you are doing your floor time should be piggy proff, block up holes, pick up cables, block off dangerous areas. In my room I had to roll up the carpet and use it to block off an are under my desk, I had to pick up the cables and block off holes (even tiny ones), after all of this I ended up having to wash my floor because they did lots of wees thus why it may be better to do it outside. The following site is very informative:

You should let your piggie out for floor time each day for a minimum of an hour. Be sure that the area is "piggie proofed" & there is nothing that could harm him/her. Things like electrical cords to lamps or clocks, rodent bait, other animals (dogs, cats, ferrets), etc. should not be present. Also be sure your piggie can't get under any heavy furniture or appliances.

Some people use the cubes that are used in a C&C cage & secure them together with nylon zip ties to make a little "play pen" for piggies. See http://www.guineapigcages.com/ for some ideas on this.

Good luck!

I would say an hour in all. 10 minutes in the morning (20 if u hav work and such and can't have her exersice in the afternoon) maybe 15 and then another 15 later and maybe 10 and then 10 again... Break it up however you want. Get one of those balls so she can run in it and go all over the floor. They r so cute when they're in those things!! Gerbils & Hamsters have wheels that they can exersice on at any point of the day and are generally more active than Guineas, so it's important to get he/she out of the cage and exercising for an hour per day. Good luck with your piggy!

Floor time should happen for at least an hour a day. More would be great. They can't have too much floor time. Just be sure that they have access to food and water if they are out very long. No exercise wheels or balls.

Hey

Its greaqt to know tha tyou are interested in your piggies well-being.

As other people have said, the smaller the cage/hutch, the longer time is needed. Each of your piggies should get around about 1 hour/45 mins a day. This will help them to stay fit.

If you need somewhere to let them run about, check out the link in the box.

I'm glad that I could help you out a bit.

They need to exercise daily! At a minimum, an hour a day. Breaking that hour up is a good idea, that way they can return to their cage for toileting and water. My guy nips my fingers when he is ready to return to his cage. I will put him in and he goes potty, drinks some water, and has a bite to eat. If he wants to come back out and continue to play he comes back to the door!

I let my pigs have up to 5 hours a day. They have my bed to play on. Only one pig really plays though.

An hour a day or more. Divide it up, some in the morning and some in the evening. Have fun!

about an hour a day or more. the smaller the cage the more exercize time needed. do not put them in an exercize wheel or ball like someone suggested you could break their spine.

Why not give him "free choice"? He knows how much exercise time that he needs, better than you do, doesn't he? Be kind to animals. Happy trails.
