My hamster had babies for the second time, they are 4 days old, but there's 1 problem, there was 8, but now we can only count 7. I don't want to disturb the nest too much but I am concerned. I don't know what could have happened, he couldn't of fell out the cage cos they can't walk yet or if mum had eaten it, there would be remains, what do you think?? We don't have cats or any other animals. PLEASE HELP!

the male was separated from her the day before she had them, and now one of the babies got tied up in the bedding and we handled him to untie him, so obviously the mum has abandoned it so we have to care and feed it. It's a nightmare! I didn't want to interfere but cos i share the hamsters she decided it and she's so stubborn

If there is a male hamster in there, which I would assume it is 'cause the hamester couldn't have gotten pregnant by itself, the male could've eaten it.

It is very common for the father's to eat thier young.

no longer until she is disturbed. you may desire to go away the nest thoroughly on my own. If the mummy is scared, or smells your heady scent on her toddlers, she will merely approximately honestly kill them. merely placed nutrition interior the cage on a daily basis like huge-unfold, btu do no longer even touch the nest until the infant hamsters are greater and transferring around.

The babies probably are hiding in the mulch. i did have a gerbil that ate all her babies once.

well this has happened to me before, when they eat they're young there are no remains, and do you have thick bedding? it could have burrowed/ or been burried by its siblings

rodents sometimes eat their own young; cannabalism. Maybe that's a possibility?
