Ok.
Food:
Guinea pigs under the age of 6 months need unlimited plain pellets and chaff (or dry mix). They should have alfalfa hay available at all times. All guinea pigs over the age of 6 months need 1/4 of a cup of plain pellets and 1/4 of a cup of chaff (or dry mix). At this stage alfalfa hay should not be fed to guinea pigs because of its high level of calcium, they should be fed Timothy hay which again should be available at all times. Guinea pigs also need 1 cup of fresh produce daily. This should be mainly made up of leafy greens. Other vegetables can be found on the following site.

Guinea pigs can not make their own vitamin c thus why we have to supply it for them, this can be provided through a tablet supplement or through fresh produce. Use the following site for a list of vegetables and how much of each food you need to get the 10mg minium of vitamin c a day.

Cage:
I'm assuming that you have already purchased a cage. Make sure that it does not have a wire bottom because guinea pigs get bumble feet from this. It should be at least 7.5sq ft (see the link bellow).
http://www.guineapigcages.com/
Bedding:
Fleece, carefresh, yesterdays news and aspen are all good bedding materials. I personally prefer aspen. It soaks up the urine and makes the cage and therefore the guinea pigs not smell as much. I place newspaper on the bottom, this makes for easy cleaning as all you have to do is wrap it up, I top this with aspen and then I choose a corner to place some hay which my girls use to sleep in.
Grooming:
If you have a long haired guinea pig then you will need to brush her every day, with spot baths often and normal baths every month or so. The short haired guinea pig needs to be brushed every week, with normal baths as they need them. I use a clothes basket lined with a towel which I sit in the bath. I fill this with washing up liquid and luke-warm water.
Floor time:
Floor time should be done every day, the bigger the room the better and the longer the time the better. It should be done in a guinea pig safe room. Use the following site for more information:
http://www.guineapigcages.com/floortime.htm
Toys:
Guinea pigs by nature are herd animals thus why the do better in pairs. You should consider getting another guinea pig for your guinea pig at the moment, if you decide to get another one then you should look into doing it sooner rather than later. And remember to get another sow because if you get a boar you will be populating this over populated world.
There are not very many toys that you can buy from a petstore. Do not buy a guinea pig wheel or harness, this are extremely dangorous for your guinea pigs spine. Many toys can be made from home, for not very much money and are easy to make. These include:
1. PVC piping 4 inch diameter
2. Large paper bag opened and folded back at the lip
3. Towel hung over a corner of the cage
Use this site for more toys:

I highly recommend reading this site, it has everything that you need to know.

Addition:
You should not feed your guinea pig yoghurt drops. Dairy products along with meat and nuts are among those on the list that you should not feed your guinea pig. If you want to give your guinea pig a treat try some fruit.
Guinea pigs are diurnal like us. Awake during the day and asleep at night.
Good Luck!!

Pet store cages are wayy to small for any guinea pig. A C&C cage is easy to make, cheaper, and much bigger and better gor your pig. www.guineapigcages.com has instructions on making your own or ordering a premade one. DO NOT use cedar chips for bedding like someone previously suggested. They are very harmful to your gp. GuineaLynx has bedding ideas.
Diet is very important: Quality pellets (no extra colorful bit or seeds) are essential. Oxbow is a good brand pellet. At least a cup of fresh veggies every day. Unlimited timothy hay 24/7. Vitmain c supplements. http://www.guinealynx.info/diet.html....... has more diet details.
* Vitman C should not be put in the water. It weakens in water and you can't measure how much the guinea pig gets a day. Use vit.C drops or chewable tablets.
Guinea pigs need daily floor/exercise time in a safe place. At least an hour a day is best. Since GP are social animals, it's best to have 2 so that they will have company all the time. Be sure they are the same sex though. Pregnancies are very dangerous for piggies.

The most important thing is add vitamin C to the diet....this is the single most important thing you can do to have a healthy guinea pig. You can get orange flavored tablets or the liquid made for children. They need 25-50mg per day. Many pigs will eat the tablets like a treat or you can offer the liquid with an eyedropper--once they get the taste, they love it!
Don't rely on the pellets to provide it--if the pellets are more than 90 days old (and who knows how long they've been sitting in the bag) there will be no appreciable C in them. Try offering treats that have high C, like bell peppers, tomatoes, and oranges.

Well, you should clean out her cage every week or earlier. It's good for your guinea pig to be clean at all times. Try finding little yogurt bites at a pet store, my guinea pig loved those as a treat. Another thing to keep in mind is that she is going to make noise at night, or "sing." It might keep you up. Try putting her in a different room for the night (away from any harm or pets like a dog.) Good luck!

i have three male guinea pigs and i love them! you should make sure you give them enough vitamin c. they can get this through vitamin c drops you put in water, food with extra vitamin c,vitamin c tablets, or fruits like oranges and apples. their hay or grass(whichever you give them) should take up most of their diet. mine love lettuce and pretty much all fruits and some vegetables. they love to jump and run around and make different noises. if you see any problem in your piggie such as lethargy, not eating, or crusty eyes you should call your vet if possible and talk to your vet about what you think is wrong because guinea pigs tend to hide their illnesses until the problem becomes severe. I hope you have lots of fun with your new piggie!!!!!!
