I just bought a guinea pig today from a petstore well, she was in a cage w/ a guinea pig from her litter & 2 other guinea pigs from another litter.

Well, she's old enough to leave her mother (Obvisouly) but, I was wondering if there is any chance my guinea pig could get pregnant. They didn't tell me how old she was and they didn't know when I asked. So, I'm a little stuck.

Well, my other question is that how can I tell if she's a male or female? They checked her gender & they said we "believe" she is a female but we aren't %100 sure. Well, thats another I have to know if she is pregnant or not.

I'm not sure if this will help or not but, her nipples are quite large. As big as my almost 4 (On August 1st) month old kitten.

I'm very confused & if she is pregnant, I'll be very excited & I know they have extremely hard births which me & my boyfriend will have the funds to take her to the vet.

I was also looking for guinea pig names.
Both girl & boy (Since I don't know her sex).
She is black (Mainly), brown, & white. She doesn't have much brown nor white on her.

If she is older than a month or so she could well be pregnant. It is very hard to tell the age of a guinea pig, sometimes the size, weight can help or the thickness of their toenails and teeth.

To check that she is a female flip her on her back and gently press around the genital area, this site should help:

Here is some week by week signs:
Week 1: No signs

Week 2: Sow may start drinking more

Week 3: Sow will start gaining weight, there will be a tightening of the abdomen muscles.

Week 4: An experienced breeder will be able to feel small foetuses

Week 5: Sow usually looks noticeably pregnant, taking on a rather rounded appearance. You will be able to feel the outlines of the foetuses.

Week 7: You will be able to feel 'quickening' this is when the babies kick

Week 9: It may become difficult for the sow to move around but she should still be active and eat and drink as normal.
The pelvic bones will separate sometime during this week

Week 10: The babies will be born

You will need to find an exotic vet near you because if she is pregnant the chances that something will go wrong is high.
This is a vet locater:

Extreme pressure is put on the sows organs and blood stream. In the mean time you need to do alot of research, this should help start this process:

In terms of names, I have named both my girls after flowers (by accident), Lily and Buttercup. Some good name sites include:

Aha.

Well guinea-pigs are actually not that hard to sex, especially with pictures.. http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm should make it easy. Or http://www.diddly-di.fsnet.co.uk/Sexing-Guinea-Pig.htm

Now, I've never had females, but even the males we had actually had quite big nipples, they're much more clear than on a rabbit for instance.

One beautiful thing about guinea-pigs, is it's clear to see if she's pregnant. Do am image search for "pregnant guinea pig", and you'll see what I mean. They swell up around the middle, and don't look fat, they really do look pregnant. Not sure how quickly they show, but you'd have pre-warning.

Good luck with your little girl (or boy), but I actually doubt she is pregnant. If you can responsibly look after any babies in case of trouble rehoming, and have the money to look after them, you could breed her in future anyway. A friend of mine bought 2 "females", and one ended up pregnant. Had 4 babies, 3 girls 1 boy. Boy lives with dad (though often they need splitting) and girls lived with mum. Just so ya know.

So have fun, and good luck, hope this helps!

It is pretty common for people to buy guinea pigs from pet stores already pregnant. They don't separate them at all! Turn them over and press gently on either side of the genitals--boys will kind of "telescope" out, and girls won't! :) Adult males have large testicles that are easily seen. Here's some pictures to help:
