I found an easter box turtle on a path in the woods. He was walking towards an apartment complex. I picked him up and took a look at him. He was blind and had no slits on his eyelids. His eyes looked like a blind person with closed lids. That really doesn't explain it. But I knew he was blind and not infected. He was an older box turtle. I turned him around and put him back in the wooded area. I thought about taking him to the vets...but decided he had lived that way a long time and seemed successful at it thus far. Should I have taken him the see the vet or to a sanctuary??Several hours later I went back to look and see if he was in the same spot and he was gone.

In the past I had also found a three legged box turtle and helped it cross the road. I believed it had been missing the leg for some time. It was healed and he was moving along pretty well when I let him go. I generally think turtles and tortoises should be left to their own devices. What do u think?

My brother gave me a Red Eared Slider (Emo) and for four days I stored it in a 10 Gal. aquarium with a bunch of other fish (guppies, mollies, and a pleco) until I could get the 40 Gal. habitat I have for him now. In the aquarium he swam alot and ate twice in the four days he was in there. I have an extensive filtration system, air pump, water heater, basking lamp, log in the water, rocky background for the tank and beach type area to the left 1/5 of the new tank (the rest being water for Emo to swim). I put turtle pellets and lettuce on the beach and a guppy in the water (adding more if he eats). He has not eaten anything and in the ten hours a day he is in my sight for two days (I keep him in my office) I have never seen him bask in the lamp area. Also the bottom of the tank is gravel and so is the beach (Pet store recomendation, I wanted sand) is this bad for Emo? Is something wrong due to the lack of eating/ basking? Do I just turn the lamp off at night? Will he get too cold

Moved into a house with a very shallow 12' x 5' pond (almost dries up if it doesn't rain in a week), with a liner topped by basic stone (about 1" diameter "river rock" type stuff). It does have a very basic "pump/waterfall" but thats it. What steps or process would I need to undertake to convert into something suitable for fish, turtles etc.? I would like to do this as inexpensively as possible. I live in Indiana and already have some sliders, crawdads, minnows etc. in a 125 gallon tank...

Ok so here's the deal, I'm in med school, so obviously I don't have that much time. My family is pushing me to get married and have children, but at this point in my life that is definetly not what I want to do. So I'm doing the next best thing, getting a pet. Thats where you guys come in. I need a pet that is inexpensive, doesn't require a whole lot of attention, doesn't get that big and isn't a cat or dog or anything with fur, no birds, and not a fish. My last fish committed suicide by jumping out of its bowl and I swore to never get another one. My last bird tried to kill me, and I am allergic to furry animals. So, what do you think I should get?
