Serious questions for iguana experts.. my iguana has metabolic bone disease... i was told its from lack of uvb rays i have the heat glo light but i'll have to get the day time one too with the uvb rays... question is... i've read and been told when i asked a vet that the iguana needs a serious amount of calcium in the upcoming weeks. from experience what is the best calcium suppliment to use with high dosage and can these bumps and bone diformities actually straight out and regain all movement?????

No the bones will never straighten out. The deformities will remain.
The uvb bulb is a flourescent bulb. Brands i use and recomend are either Zoo Med's Reptisun 5.0 or 10.0 or Exo terra Repti-Glo 5.0, 8.0
I dont understand what you mean by heat glo bulb. Iguanas need not only the flourescent lights in the links below, but a circular lamp that has a day light bulb that emits heat and UVA. Its either a white bulb or blue bulb. Night glow bulbs are either black or red to be used at night if it gets too cold in your home.
When i rescued a bearded dragon with mbd i gave him calcium supplementation twice a week with flukers brand calcium powder. Too much calcium can result in hypercalcemia wich is very dangerous. Make sure to feed your iguana greens that are high in calcium such as dandilion greens and flowers, hibiscus leaves and flowers, mustard greens, collard greens, turnip greens, and watercress. Never give lettuce of any kind. It has no nutritional value. Never give spinach and kale because they are high in oxcalates that block the absorbtion of calcium.

the calcium vitamin to use is repti cal and put it on his food every feeding and no the bones will not go back to looking the way they were before. when the iguana gets the calcium he needs the bones start to heal the way they are and that means that when he is healed he may have bones looking like he was in a fight but yes he will be able to have movement but it won't be like before. make sure that you have both a heat source and the uvb light on all the time till he gets better. well good luck in careing for your iguana.

I have an iguana, for one obviously make sure that you are feeding him lots of greens that should be the base of the diet..Also Berries such as blueberries, raspeberries etc. have a lot of calcium, hibiscus flowers..
Also I buy this spray from the reptile pet store that I spray on him daily it works really well it is called Natures Reptile Vita Spray it is a very common product not hard to find and inexpensive as well..It also helps them with shedding..
I also give him Iguana food not every day a few times a week I will mix it in with his food, you can also find this at a reptile pet store as well...I would try the spray though, if he is in need of immediate calcium it works good..hope I helped a little Good Luck!

My gecko have been given MBD even though it went away after some month. She continues to be finished grown and healthful now, yet I had to feed her a selection of of calcium to heal. i'm uncertain if it extremely is suitable to iguanas simply by fact they are diverse than geckos, yet they are the two reptiles... this could stunt the develop of it simply by fact it extremely is lots better yet i'm uncertain.

I had an iguana die of MBD... got so bad we had to give shots in his thigh daily. We ended up pureeing his food because his mouth was so bad, had some type of soft mouth. I dont remember what type of calcium we mixed in with the pureed food. He didnt make it very long. I hope yours was caught early on, and you can help him.

Get a good reptile calcium supplement and mix it in with his daily salad (see www.anapsid.org for excellent advice). He may recover but there is still the possibility that he may never grow normally.
