it depends on the size of the snake. if you have a smaller snake (under 5 feet) generally just grab him by the back of the head, and then the rest of his body. just make sure to cradle as much of his body as possible while your picking him up, as you could hurt him. kind of like grabbing the underside of his jaw with your hand and with the other moving most of the snakes body onto your arm, and then the rest with the free hand. you don't need to grab hold any harder than you would a cat or puppy. they'll figure out what's going on and grab onto you as well. just bear in mind, the bigger it is, the more people you need to lift it up. i had a 17' albino burmese python forever, and i had to move him little by little. i couldn't find anyone to help me!! since it's non venomous, i would guess that you have a reticulating snake. if it's very big, and not used to being handled, ALWAYS have someone around when you handle it, because if it decides to coil around you, the only way to get it to stop is to kill it. that's why i don't have my Monty anymore. no one would help me move it, but my buddy would come over and stand on my table and watch. good thing, too.

Depends on the snake.
In general, pick it up by two body points to protect the spine. If the snake is 'snappy', then one point should be behind the head.
Most snakes respond better to being 'scooped' than being 'grabbed' like a big bird would.
Tree-dwelling snakes will naturally start to wrap around you, while ground snakes need to be supported while being held.
Be aware of a few issues:
- Snappy snakes will bite, so control the ehad firmly, but don't squish it.
- Other snakes will defecate or musk you, so be ready.
- Many snakes will automatically seek out hiding spaces- inside shirts, through belt loops, etc.
- Snakes like to wrap to hold things. If a bigger snakes wraps your neck it can get uncomfortable.
- Any animal can carry Salmonella or other germs from its feces or other people handling it. Wash your hands before and after handling.

NO NO NO.. what is it with people recommending that you should just head pin any snake that might strike once or twice... if you cant handle getting bit by a snake occasionally then dont get one. head pinning is dangerous to the animal and should only be done for medical purpose's...
if you dont want to be bit then get a hook.... most of the times i see people get tagged its when there trying to grab a snake behind the head..

The best way to hold a snake is by letting him crawl around your hand and fingers without you gripping him very hard.
