You should be able to get help at any local pet store. A terrarium generally promotes a damp environment, so you need to consider what type of snake you have and where it is from before you decide what type of cage to buy it. If the cage is too moist, the snake could get a fungal infection. Try to find a pet store that sells reptiles only or one that you know is reputable before asking for advice. Also, if you haven't purchased the snake yet, please make sure you purchase a captive born snake. Otherwise, you are supporting a market that captures wild-cought snakes which is not only dangerous to global snake populations, you also have a greater chance of purchasing a snake that has mites/disease/or any other number of health problems.

Any old aquarium will work. But, years ago I had a Columbian Boa, and her terrarium was actually an old console TV set with the guts removed, and the front was sealed with glass. The back was hinged to open like a door. It was HUGE inside, it looked cool, and the snake was very happy inside there.
When I say console TV, I mean the big ones from the 1960's that sat on the floor and were the size of a coffee table.

I'd recommend checking your local thrift stores and discount stores before paying full price at a pet store. We've always been able to find one at a thrift store or garage sale. You may have to purchase a screen lid at a pet store though.
