The temp in his basking area is 81-85 F and his water is 72-75 F. He is eating and a very active swimmer. He is about 3" long and resides in a 40 gallon enclosure. He mostly hides underneath this floating platform on the opposite side of the beach/ basking lamp, but he never gets on top of that either. The only time I have seen him out of the water in the two weeks I have had him is when I lead a trail of food from the water to the basking area, but he just takes the food back into the water. Anything I can do? Am I doing anything wrong. Plus I have two guppies in the tank with him, I want him to learn to hunt and get food on his own (guppies). Should I withhold some food from him until he hunts the fish out of nessecity or will he eventually switch to fish anyways?

I need to know because I have children and pets who play outside sometimes. Also, there is a black racer that hangs out in a particular area of our yard.

My husband has disposed of a rattle snake and copperhead and a water moccasin in the last year. If the racer takes care of rattlers we will leave him alone.

It looks like white flakes are peeling off of it's skin? Isn't it that it's growing or something?

I'm Looking to feed a pet snake and would like to purchase live mice, not the frozen ones... are there good places to get these? Not from an area where i can just walk around the corn field and find them.

Nothing stupid, like Fluffy. Actually, that would be funny, but not to name my snake. I want nice names, like Chloe or something.

I have a turtle that you can get for $5 including its cage and food. It is supposed to live for like a couple of days and then die, but my turtle is already 13months old. When i got it, it was oh say the size of a dollar coin(the big one) and now it is the size of a medium sized rock. Before, it could eat 5-6 pellets and now it hardly eats 3 pellets. Is it hibernating? It doesnt move a lot but i know it is alive. i have had another one of these turtles before and it also had a good appetite and then it just stopped eating and slept a lot. i thought it was dead so i threw it out and thought it died because i had dropped it once.
Can anyone help me? I really love this turtle, even though it is one of those small ones. :(

she is anorexic, and has been for some time now. she appears to be otherwise pretty healthy, with the occasional couple of days that she gets constipated. i have to feed her supplements that i get online, with an eyedropper or a syringe that i slide ino her mouth. and she will eat lettuce and carrots if i slide them into her mouth. every other day or so i offer her bugs, but rarely does she eat them. she does much better with syringe feeding. she is 3 years old.
today i decided to make her a "smoothie". please tell me if she can drink/eat this. i cooked up some carrots, green beans, peas, corn, and broccoli. and i put it into a blender and added water, lettuce, apples, this supplement/apetite booster for reptiles called jumpstart, and a little bit of calcium powder. and i pureed it all together. can she eat all the things listed above??

Does anyoneknow where I can find snakes near my home? I live in Shoreline Washington, which is just north of Seattle Washington, just south of the king/Snohomish county line, and along Puget Sound? Where should I look, and how should I place a pvc pipe or a board for a snake to choose to hide in it so I can come and find it? I want to see snakes near my home, but do not plan to keep them as pets, I already have two cats and I know wild snakes don't keep well as pets. I need as much information as possible. Thank you for your help.

I am planning on buying a snake but with so many species out there i'm not sure which would be the best as a pet. Also would i be best to get a heat lamp or mat? Lastly, how often would i need to feed a hatchling?
