My mom is freaked out by snakes, yet I really want one. Should I con her into letting me get one or leave this rest as a lost cause

You shouldn't con her into getting one, but assure her that it would be in a cage, and make sure that you put bricks on the top of the cage so it can't get out.
Also, you could get a smaller species of snake, such as a ball python which rarely gets larger than 5 feet, instead of a boa which grow to be over 12 feet.
Also point out that you would only have to feed it once a week, and food is rarely over 3.00 a rat. And there wouldn't be little "suprises" around the house.
=) good luck.

Well Snakes make good pets but you cant really do any thing With them besides take them out of the cage and handle them and it gets boring after a while but they are very interesting and if its your first time then get a corn snake or a ball Python but definitely make sure you want one first do a little research and see if you really want one and if u do then before you get one make sure you research and get the tank set up first before you get one also if she says it will get out easily its true but you can get a screen lid and put some books on top and it works fine

Depends on how responsible you are and if you have the money to properly care for it. Snakes require a LOT of care, and expensive housing, heaters, etc.
I had a ribbon snake once, meanest animal I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. It bit me so many times I lost count, literally it bit me every single time I lifted the lid to it's aquarium to feed it, water it, clean it's cage, whatever. Now I know why the previous owner brought it to my shelter.

No, don't get a snake unless you have everything you need to keep one, and a good source of live mice. The number of snakes and lizards that die each year is horrendous, simply because someon who doesn't know a damned thing about them buys one, and doesn't look after it properly. So, where are you going to keep it, what are you going to feed it, where is it going to get exercise? AQnd is there a vet that deals with herps in your area? I suggest getting an aquarium, and a couple of loaches or knife fish. they LOOK like snakes, and are much easier to look after.

well don't do it behind your mom's back, but maybe wait till college or offer to get one of the colorful types like a corn snake. A pretty corn snake might change her mind, they are gentle and don't get too big. Don't give up.
