No they are not poisonous, but they do carry salmonella. SO make sure you wash your hands if you handle them

The only lizards in the US that are poisonous are Gila monsters in the southwest.

There are only 3 venomous lizards in the entire world--the gila monster, the Mexican beaded lizard, and the Komodo dragon (recently discovered to have actual venom as well as a lot of bacteria in its saliva). Since there's no such thing as a 'home lizard', my best guess is you meant house geckos. There's a myth that they are toxic when eaten by cats, but it is just that--a myth.

The only dangerously VENOMOUS (NOT poisonous) lizards are the Helodermatids- Gila monsters and beaded lizards. Interestingly enough it has recently been discovered that Agamids/Iguanids (Iguanas, bearded dragons etc...) as well as Varanids (monitors- such as savannah monitors and Komodo dragons) are actually technically venomous, (one protein isolated in bearded dragon "venom" had previously only been found in rattlesnake venom!) however they are NOT venomous in the sense that they are dangerous to humans... It's just an interesting fact that leads to some even more interesting evolutionary ramifications... but I won't get into that....

The short answer is: No.

The only poisonous lizard in the U.S. is the Gila Monster (SW desert areas).
However all lizards carry bacteria in their mouth (including salmonella) that can cause severe infections if their bites break the skin.

If any reptile breaks your skin with a bite, go see a doctor immediately.

What kind of "home" lizards?
The little green tree lizards? Those are anoles - and they are not poisonous - they eat bugs. If they are small and brown - still an anole, and still not dangerous.

unless you live in arizona or komodo, don't worry about lizards being poisionous. besides they aren't very likely to attack a human anyway. you could possible be allergic to their saliva though, so i would be careful handling them.
