Rest assured, I am not catholic though I am curious why you would specify that. Are you catholic yourself?
Since you are asking, I assume that you believe that there is a meaning for life, that there is a purpose. Since you already have this opinion, I ask that you ignore those people who believe that life is an accident and therefore has no meaning. Please do not let their skepticism curb your search.
Here now is my answer. I am a christian so I am going to refer to the Bible if you don't mind. Please read the book of Ecclesiastes. It is not extremely long but you might want to read it a couple chapters a day and stop to organise the facts and your thoughts. The writer of the book, (you might already know this but bear with me) is King Solomon, the wisest king in the history of the world, and one of the richest. In this book he calls himself the Teacher.
He explains that he decided to discover the meaning of life, just as many people do today, but being a king, he had vast resourses to use. He tested many things including pleasure, possesions, work, and learning. He found them all unfulfilling in the end. He even found wisdom lacking fulfilment. He saw all the oppession on the world and found that it was meaningless evil. In the end, he found that nothing could be enjoyed without God, and that the duty of man is to fear God and keep his commandments.
This might sound restrictive, but remember that the book only says that this is where life's meaning is, not that everything else is wrong, they are only meaningless if you focus on them. Solomon says the earthly things are good, and man should delight in them, but do it within the context of God's will, and then they will have meaning. Without God though, no meaning is possible.
The book is very indepth, far more than this summery and there is profound meaning in it. I hope that you will not only read it but read carefully, especially with the help of other people or a study book about Ecclesiastes. Trust me that this search of yours is very importent and you should not abandon it untill you find the answere. Please check every possability, even if you are biased away from the Bible. (as your refusal of catholic ideas suggests)

No catholics? That's pretty rude. The world is full of people from all places with all beliefs. Why single out catholics?

There is no point, and that is the point. C'mon, you should know that by now!
Life is great because our fate isn't in the hands of some random guy in a chair, it's in our own hands.
Accept the power trip, respect the power trip, smoke pot.

There is no meaning to life. Live and let live and do good unto others. It's not a meaning. That's like saying what is the meaning of death and suffering. There is no meaning. Not everything has meaning. What is the meaning of cancer, AIDS etc...Nothing.
