If its a first time pet then:
Leopard Gecko
Viper Gecko
Corn Snake
Newts
Red Eared Slider
Ball Python
Bearded Dragons
Stink Pot Turtles

But I don't Recommend iguanas and any other snakes because its a first time and you might not be used to them and they are hard to get used to for snakes the corn snake are easy to take care of and very fun to keep and don't grow as big as other snakes the ball Payton is a little hard but also gets big leopard geckos are very easy geckos to take care of and fun and not that big. The viper gecko is very small but easy to take care of but can be lost easily. Newts are easy to take care of but not that fun Red eared sliders are turtles and they are easy to take care of and fun as well Bearded Dragons are fun lizards but they get kinda big. Stink-pot Turtles are very cute and easy to take care of and very fun. I advise you to research the animal before u get it so you know if its really the animal you want.

I've had an Iguana, a red-headed agama, and a chameleon. The Iguana was not right for me, although I tried, got it when it was about 6 inches long including the tail. It hated people, would whip it's tail and scratch. I had to wrap my hands and arms in duct tape to put him in his harness so he could get out of his cage once in a while. The agama bit me-I don't recomend that one. The chameleon was great, very gentle, a pleasure to watch, to feed, everything. They're a bit spendy but well worth it!

In no particular order:
Leopard Geckos
Bearded Dragons
Ball Pythons
Corn Snakes
King Snakes
Red Tailed Boas (get large-ish though)
Perhaps small turtles/tortoises (can be a lot of work, not really for beginners)
Uromastyx

That's all I can think of for now... I DON'T recommend iguanas, or most turtles for that matter (especially aquatic ones). Iguanas get waaaaaay too big for most people to properly take care of, and aquatic turtles can become pretty expensive to (properly) maintain.

Bearded dragons (I love them, I have one!)
Ball Python
Corn Snake
Leopard Gecko
Blue Tongued Skink
King Snake
Uromastyx
Red Ear Slider (turtle)

Not ten, can't think of anymore....;)
I know these aren't ALL reptiles, but they are usually in the same group...:)
