So I am starting my first (real) job at a a veterinary hospital as a veterinary assistant. I have always and still do want to become a vet and since I was 5 I've been asking our vet if I could work there. Well, I'm finally old enough and was recently hire as a state-of-the-art animal hospital. It seems really promising and I've worked with animals for years but mostly on farms. Are there any little tib bits I should know about that may help me out my first day (week, month)on the job? Or anything that isn't so obvious but I should be aware about when working there? I really can't screw up working here and I want to do the best I can because I know this will be one of the best things I could put on my college application come next fall when I apply to vet school in the UK. So any extra little tips or thing you guys could let me in on I would more than appreciated it! Thanks all!

theres this rabbit around our house (on a farm) and she s always been around we give her food all the time; she looks like shes been abandoned. We noticed she been acting weak and from far away she doesnt look skinny at all. But today she was so weak taht she acctually let me come up to her and pet her. When i petted her all i felt was bones .. she is soo skinny but has a nice belly under those ribs. i don't understand it. i have her in a box now and shes eating plenty. I would take her to the vet but taht isn't an option .. my parents totally don't beleive in vets, there were just too many cases where they took so much money from us but didnt help at all. so please do NOT sugest a vet. and if there are any vets that can help this poor boney just tell me what to do. there are so many diseases that this could be so please help me out here, shes truly a great bunny, about 2 to 4 years old and i dont think shes able to produce body fat, i have no idea so please all suggestions are great:)

Hi Guys an Gals!

Just wondering if any of you can help me out with a little dilema,
my little hamster Noodles has just died, were talking a matter of minutes!
My dad was really attatched to her and is really upset and wants to get another one as soon as possible, here lies my dilema, how long should i leave it before getting another one?
the caged has been throughly cleaned out and she didn't die of wet tail, she just went in her sleep, so there is no chance of a new little fella catching anything nasty.
Me dad wants a new one tomorrow, but im not sure!
Any helpful suggestions or advice would be really helpful
Many Thanks!

He's got feces stuck to the back of his bum, and it gathers in clusters. I've cleaned it off and haven't been feeding him a lot of pellets, just hay and lots of water. I'm wondering if he's constipated? I've read somewhere the papaya and kiwi can clear out the system. Is he constipated, or is there something else? What can I do?

My friend is a veterinary nurse and last week they were administering gas to a dog and there was an inproper seal on the mask. She began to feel very groggy and as she described the room began to echo and she became wobbly. I am worried about the long term health issues associated with exposure and also about the laws related to protecting her against this happening again. She said it was no big deal cos she felt fine afer some fresh air, but she does have an arrythmia problem with her heart?

ok I found a big white fluffy rabbit with red eyes over a week ago,

I put posters up and no one came forward so I kept him, my dad dont like animals so he said I can only keep him if I get a hutch, so I bought a hutch and made a huge run,

he loves being out in it but the problem is, just now it rained and he was hoping mad jumping every where, hinding under his hutch then running out then running inside his hutch.

but I just read the rain can kill them so I put him in his hutch and locked the door, is this right the rain could kill him?

ok I found a rabbit and put posters up no one came forward so he stayed in my room until I bought him a hutch,

i know got him a big hutch with a huge run, problem is I feed him like I feed my hamster I just put food in the dish and put it inside his hutch when it gone I fill it.

but when he was in my room he just eat it, now in his hutch he flips the food bowl over and kicks it out.

also it just started raining and he was running around the hutch flipping out, then he would run and hide under his hutch or inside then run out again, so i put him in his hutch and locked the door cuz of the rain.

tell me what im doing wrong or right please because I aint got a clue

Who gives the rabies shots(veterinarian or veterinarian technician)?? I would like to be able to give all my animals their shots myself(the basic shots like rabies,distemper,ect,..) but i want to know how i would be able to do this?? What kind of license, and education would i need? I was thinking that a Veterinary Technician could give the shots, so is that right and would that work, and how??

Thanks

I got my hermit crab about a year ago. This week has been pretty bad for one of them. I have three, in a huge tank. This week started with the hermit crab's big pincher falling off. Then, he started moving. There was wierd bubbles in his shell and on his face. I didn't touch him. The next day, there was brown goo coming out of his shell, like diahrea or vomit. I stayed away from him. So, does anybody know what's going on? Is he carrying a disease?

Would a pet tortoise roaming around a garden in the UK be at risk from local foxes? What about from pet dogs or cats?

2007-09-16 01:44:44 · 5 answers · asked by Louisa 3

OK, here is my dog:
"OH BOY, THERE'S THE CATS! THEY ARE ONLY ACROSS THE ROOM! IF I CAN WALK VERRRRY SLOWLY AND KEEP MY EYES ON THEM THEY WON'T KNOW I AM GETTING CLOSER TO THEM! HERE I COME...NOW I AM ONLY A NOSE AWAY. OH BOY, OH BOY! I WILL BE ABLE TO STICK MY NOSE IN THEIR FUR AND LICK THEM AND MOUTH THEM AND IT'S GOING TO BE SO GREAT!! OOPS! THERE THEY GO! NOW I GET TO CHASE THEM! WOO HOO! THIS IS SO FUN!! WEEEEE!" ok, the cats tolerate the puppy but do swat back at her sometimes and i think it's starting to become a game for my one cat. kinda like "oh yeah doggie come on, come alittle closer, hahaha, yeah doggie...wappo!" the puppy seems to think this is like the most fun goin. what i do is sometimes be inbetween them to moniter the situation, sometimes i shout NO CATS to the dog, sometimes i let them do their thing. i know consistancy is key in training but is this kind of play ok? the cats (especially the one) still usually stays "open targets" in the house
