theres this rabbit around our house (on a farm) and she s always been around we give her food all the time; she looks like shes been abandoned. We noticed she been acting weak and from far away she doesnt look skinny at all. But today she was so weak taht she acctually let me come up to her and pet her. When i petted her all i felt was bones .. she is soo skinny but has a nice belly under those ribs. i don't understand it. i have her in a box now and shes eating plenty. I would take her to the vet but taht isn't an option .. my parents totally don't beleive in vets, there were just too many cases where they took so much money from us but didnt help at all. so please do NOT sugest a vet. and if there are any vets that can help this poor boney just tell me what to do. there are so many diseases that this could be so please help me out here, shes truly a great bunny, about 2 to 4 years old and i dont think shes able to produce body fat, i have no idea so please all suggestions are great:)

Actually you don't need a vet for this instance. All you need to do is pen the rabbit up and feed it rabbit pellets.

Domestic rabbits when they are left to run out in the wild eat pretty much nothing but grass and the vegetation they find. That diet isn't the healthiest diet for domesticated rabbits. So for all of those people that think they should feed their rabbit tons of greens and grass, take notice.

About the best way I can describe as to what happened to the rabbit is to give an example. Think of if you had a body builder. That body builder's diet consists of a lot of proteins to build muscles and have a great body. Then think about what would happen if you did away with the body builder's regular diet and made the body build only eat salad and drink water with basically no sources of protein. All of that muscle would reduce to nothing even if the person worked out because there is no nutritional nourishment to sustain the muscles. That is pretty much what happened to that rabbit.

Once you pen the rabbit up and start feeding it a diet of rabbit pellets you should start noticing it gaining muscle and weight and looking more healthy. One note, you will never be able to totally get rid of the bony feeling over the rabbit's back. It will get better but it will never fully 100% recover. When a rabbit gets thrown outside like that it loses muscle mass. Some of that muscle will regrow back but not all of it.

So the solution is really simple. Pen it up and feed it rabbit pellets and water. There's nothing too hard about that.

If your parents don't believe in vets, call your local shelter and have someone pick up the rabbit.

If it eats a lot, but is still skinny, then it could be worms. But there could also be something else wrong...
