Fish - September 2006

I just spent over 250 dollars on a stand and gorgeous set-up for my 40 gallon fish tank. I hated the rocks I had and purchased the type of sand that balances the ph in the water. So I put all the fish (2 bala sharks, 2 tiger barbs, 1 ghost knife, 1 sucker fish, 1 yellow tail, and 1 eel in my 10 gallon while I set up. I waited an hour and the fish began fighting with each other so I called the fish guy asked if it would be alright if I put the fish although the water was still hazy. He tells me its ok, its normal, the water is just settling, the fish will be fine, mind you I asked him twice. So I put them in the 40 gallon and before I know it 12 hours later all are dead except the ghost knife and the sucker fish. In fact, I had to help two "pass away" because it was clearly obvouis they were suffering and I wasnt about to let them die like that ever though they are fish. What happened!??! I'm angry and sad, did he give me the wrong sand with a high ph? Or what?!

I was looking at a picture of a black orchid halfmoon on the internet and it was really pretty, but the place was in Thailand and it costs about sixty bucks just to ship it. I don't really want to breed the fish, I just want to look at it. Is there a way I can get one cheaper?

About a month ago...i won a betta fish at an amusment park. It looked healthy and all but then his fins were kinda like together and like strings. I got another betta in a bit and then i compared the two
the one that i won looked different..it has a faded redish, blueish and greenish color, it had kinda clumped up fins and they're like strings.

I changed the water fully about every 3 -4 days and for the first time added some treatment for his fins.
Its night time right now and the betta that i won is in his little bowl..on the bottom , not that active, and his fins aren't really moving. I have a plastic plant and some shells on the bottom he just lays in one spot and goes up for air or when i put some food in ...once in a while he swims around. The tank is small...not even a gallon..it has 2 flat sides .they are about the size of your palm but bigger. The fella has no tankmates.

I dont know what is goin on
Is there somehting wrong ?
Do i change the water to much ?
HELP PLEASE !!

We are thinking to setup a salt water tank for tropical fish, such as Nemo and Dory. We can afford a 10 gallon fish tank. How many fish can we keep?

The Kish is pretty clean....

I was wading in the river with my friend because it was so hot out and we found tons of live clams. One weighed half a pound...! I like clams so much...! I really want to eat them. I always see people fish on the river, and some people might eat them, I don't know....

If you're wondering the Kishwaukee is a tributary of the Mississippi.
It is mostly very shallow.

So, do you think you could eat the clams? They look very tasty and healthy, and I actually cracked one open and they have LOTS of good meat...

Just so you know, I'm serious. I'm REALLY wondering if you could eat those things.

I put a tablet in, and thankfully, one doesn't have fin rot now, but the other still does. So in a few days I changed 25% of the water and put in another tablet, because one still had fin rot and the box said that you could put more tablets in if you wait 4 days and change 25% of the water. HE STILL HAS IT!!! What should I do? I don't want to always be treating his water, he could go into stress and die!!! What do I do???

i got a new tank and i got 8 tetras. Some have lighter color then the other. Whats does that mean? ONe of the tetras have no gill. He or she has one on the other side but then on the right he is missing a gill. im scared he might die soon. what should i do to heal him? And also, my algae eater doesnt move much. Is he dying? i mosty see him sticking to the glass or on the ground next to the heat in my tank. does that mean he is dying? he doesnt eat. in scared he is gunna die soon. I'm really struggling with this as they are quite small and I just can't decide. Any proper suggestions would be welcome. If you're just going to write the first thing that comes into your head please don't answer. i'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

PS - Best suggestion might actually become my pet's name so get thinking!
