Your fish may have ick it may not make it best thing to do is get medication to treat it by putting it in the fish water. If your fish should die put it in a bag with a little water and take it back maybe they will refund you most places do if a fish dies with in 24 to 48 hrs... Sometimes fish have cancer but I dought this is the problem if it happen so sundenly.

Sounds like fungus. Fish need the right water temp, no changes. They need the right water hardness, the right hiding places, the right food, the right pH, no ammonia, etc. Don't over feed them.

Get some fungus clear tablets or drops and fallow the directions. Also a slime coat for water changes, like Aqua Safe or some start right tablets.

Also read up on your type of fish and get a water testing kit. Have fun with your fishies and I hope they get well.

I think your fish is infected with some kind of fungus or micro-organism that eat its body colour.

Not sure it is serious or not, I suggest you isolate that fish away, so that, the "fungus or micro-organism" will not infect other fishes.

Meanwhile, you can seek advice from the shop that sell you the fish, as they should be experienced enough to recommend you what to do.

You forgot to mention what kind of fish it is. The Betas I've owned have gone like that weeks before they died I hope that's not what's happening to your fish.
