Well, the answer depends on you. Siamese Fighters are Territories fishes and are borned to live by itself. Regardless of male or female, they do fight... Mixing with fast swimming fishes will cause confusion which soon turns into stress. Bigger fishes may take them as food, Fancy fishes with beautiful fins may be attacked due to mistaken of another betta. Fin-snippers like tiger barbs may snipe fishes with long fin. Living with another territiories fishes will cause damage to both party.. So they are happy to live by itself, mixing with other fishes must be considered first.

Yes they can, but they need a large enough tank so the other fish can get away, planted aquariums help also don't get fish with long fins the Betta's like to nip on them

Be sure not to put two males fighting fish in the same tank. I did that without knowing once, and they weren't that pretty the next day

Bettas are good with just about every other fish, besides bigger fish, who eat other fish. Male bettas DO NOT get along with each other. If put together, they will fight, tear each others fins off, and/or kill one another. however, female bettas can be housed together.

yes they sure can as long as the aquarium is big enough. I used to keep my betta in a community aquarium but you have to watch out for tiger barbs because they will shred your betta's fins.
