I recently purchased an aquarium from somebody that was using it as a saltwater aquarium. It is very dirty and has salt caked all over it. I need to clean off all the algae and salt. Do I just use water and a scrubber or is there more to it? I read somewhere to use vinegar, anyone ever heard of this? Also what is a protein scimmer? The tank came with all types of stuff that I'm not familiar with. Can I keep any of the decor that was in the tank if I rinse it off? Thanks for any advice you can give.

I have 3 baby fry (baby fish) that survived from a batch of babies my guppy fish had. I heard that they can start reproducing at about a month of age. The 3 that I have are about 3 months old but yet they are sooo small! One of them has that dark gravid spot near the anal fin which means it is pregnant. Is it possible that it is pregnant, but yet soo tiny?

I have a kenyi cichlid and an electric yellow lab cichlid. The kenyi is so mean to the yellow lab. I don't have any other tanks the kenyi could move into to. I asked all my friends with tanks if they wanted the kenyi, but they all said it wouldn't be a good fit. I don't know what to do with the kenyi, the pet store won't take him and I have no1 to give him to. Is the only option left is to...well you know what Im goin to say, get rid of him for good. I don't want to do this, but I might have to. I like my yellow lab the most, and his tail fin isn't doing so good with the kenyi after him. How do I solve the problem?

I heard from someone that you need to bathe your fish. How exactly does one bathe a fish? I think that person is nuts.

My girlfriend just rescued a male betta fish from wallmart (it was in less than 1/2" of water) and wants to put in another fish to keep him company.

What I know: a.) not to put another male betta in with him; b.) not to put any aggressive fish in with him; & c.) if I put in a female betta he will try to have sex constantly and the female may get agitated.

Ideally, we'd like to get another small fish that, like bettas, do not need filtration or air stones.

Thanks for the input!

I just took all of the water out of the tank, swished the rocks around in some clean water (without using any soap) and then added new water in. The tank has 96 liters. When can I put the fish back in the tank? We have good well water and it's been about an hour since we cleaned it so the filter sucked up any left over debri.

I've had my betta fish for exactly one week already! One of these days, i noticed bubbles gathering at the corner of my betta's one gallon tank, and i was wondering what is was. I did't like the look of it, so I mixed the tank water so they would go away. They eventually went away, and just now, I was reading that betta's do "bubble nests"... do males make bubble nests?? was my male betta doing a bubble nest? was it getting ready to mate? I'm sooo curious!!

I have a 20 gal filter that has worked great for about a year, and just recently it started making a noise. Its like a grinding almost (the sound it makes when you change the filter and it fills back up). What can I do or should I just get a new one?
