Any certain brand you prefer? Do you vary the diet at all? Have you ever tried making your own?

Ok, thanks for the answers so far. Punkey, can you be any more specific? Do you have a betta that eats tropical flakes? Or does he eat betta pellets?

Tokyo, you're full of it. In fact, it is highly recommended to make your own, that way you know exactly what ingredients are in it and where they come from.

Hey Neil, thanks for the answer.
However, I'd rather give my fish a chance at a decent life than let some fish store kill them. Plants, waterfalls, wind-up toys - sure they're nice (I guess), but they lack personality.
Don't nag me about my fish.

Wardley Goldfish Flakes for my comets and Tetra Tropical flake Mix for my platy/molly. I do get the pellets sometimes but my comets prefer the flakes.
I also treat all my fish with bloodworms, brine shrimp, small pieces of cucumber, Algae tablets every once in awhile. Speckles the Comet enjoys those particularly, etc.
I haven't made my own mix. Just easier to buy the stuff.

I have average fresh water fish. Tetras Platys, beta, bala shark etc.
I feed NutraFin flake food. I got it at Petco. I also occasionally feed blood worms and feed premium beta food too, though he eats flakes mostly.
You should also throw in a water lilly because they love hiding in and eating the roots. They eat lettuce and other veggies too.
One more important thought on feeding is that most people overfeed. Fish can go a week without food and we travel all the time so we know. We did put in a battery operated auto feeder which gives a few flakes daily but not a lot. So you being home daily might skip a day ever so often to fast the fish. It is healthy.

They have fish food created for each species of fish generally. If you have gold fish for instance try the gold fish flakes or pellets. Anothe good help might be to ask your pet shop what kind of food they were feeding the fish before you bought them. Sometimes the fish will refuse to eat new fish food, so it's good to keep using the same fish food they were raised on if possible.

It all depends on what type of fish you are referring to. For small tropical fish I would feed them a Tetra mixture of flakes with powdered milk very small amounts. For larger fish as they are preditors, I would vary their diet with brine shrimp that you can hatch to feed them along with a flake type food such as Tetra. If you have larger fish, I would consider keeping a couple of small fish tanks with Guppies to breed in and feed them the fry.

When I wrongfully "tanked/bowled" up fish I fed them SLAUGHTER, I was "double-wrong" on this one...
Hello :
I myself once made the mistake of "tanking up" fish... I regret now what I once did... I have BAD DREAMS over it..... instead of dealing with animal exploitation why not try getting involved with plants. Or there are those neat "water toys" (the wind up ones, or electric ones). I hear that there are going to be little micro remote control devices coming out. Even simple rock gardens and water-falls can be fun.
Hope in awareness and understanding for great change.

well all fish food are recommended. i have 5 comets myself. also, you shouldnt attempt to try make your own fish food, as it may led to some stomach problems and the fish may even die. the only human food i recommend for fish if in need is fine toasted breadcrumbs.
