Just wondering I noticed that when we have played really hard tug of war her gums are bleeding. Could this be bad for her cause her bottom teeth are just barely showing and her other front teeth are halfway in. She loves it and doesnt act bothered but I am afraid I may be hurting her.

Our dog had TPO (hip) surgery when he was just months old. The recovery took over 3 painful months. Afterwards, he became EXTREMELY protective of his paws. The surgeon cut his nails while he was anesthesized for x-rays. The vet sedated & muzzled him to cut them, I knew this would only cause disorientation & increased aggression. I was right, & now he doesn't trust the surgeon or the vet. ...And they don't trust him either. Both times atleast 1 nail was cut too short, increasing the fear that it'd be painful. He growls & threatens to bite, but he never does. My fear is not him biting; it's me hurting him with the nail clippers when he pulls away. I'm sure he senses my anxiety which makes it worse. I've gotten him to the point where I can cut one nail, but after that it can be months before he'll let me do it again. I can file them, but they're so long now, it just won't do much. Suggestions or ideas? Serious answers only please! He has been through a lot, this is no joke to me!

My newly acquired dog is very well behaved inside. He comes when we call him and generally does as we ask him to. Outside though, it's another story. He doesn't so much walk on the lead, as lurch from side to side on it. He pays much less attention to us outside, always wants to charge up to other dogs/animals we meet, and generally doesn't listen to us.

How do we have him behave better outside?

My dog ate a 3.52 oz. dark chocolate bar tonight. I have heard that chocolate acts like a poison to dogs. How is the animal likely to react to 3.52 oz. of chocolate?

My 8 month old puppy gets car sick. One of my friends told me that they give their dog Benadryl so they sleep during the trip. They said their vet told them to give 1/2 tablet for every 25 lbs. As a test I gave Bauer 1 tablet tonight, and there was no effect at all. He still ran around like a wild man all night.

Is it ok to give him more? I am thinking about trying 1.5 tablets tomorrow night. I need to knock him out for my 4 hour drive on Wednesday.

Thanks in advance for your help

i think that if you cant afford the dog/cat any type of pet for that matter...most likely you will not be able to afford the vet bills, or emergency visits to the hospital. but i also think its unfair for families of low income, its a bit emotionally confusing, isnt it?

I know that the winner's dog and winner's b i t c h of each breed at a dog show are the ones who get points. But how many dogs does there need to be of each breed (and gender) in order to make the win official? I mean, can a dog be awarded winner's dog without any competition?

So, I have a maltese with a mowhawk right now. It's wasn't intentional, I swear. Our groomer comes every 3 weeks. It's a little pattern. She does our Yorkie, 3 weeks later she does our Maltese, 3 weeks after that she does the Yorkie's hair again. We keep their haircuts short. So, really, They both get groomed every 6 weeks. My Maltese doesn't get groomed for another 2 weeks. The way her fur is growing on the top of her head, it looks like she has a little mowhawk. I want to dye it hot pink temporarily, but I don't want to use people products. I don't know how that will work, or what it might do to her. Anyone know of a product out there?

-Pet friendly
-Temporary
-Pink

P.S. If you think this is freaky, know that I'm 16. Ha, it makes more sense now, doesn't it?

P.P.S. I would prefer to use a product. Home recipes and such are nice, but products specifically for this would make me feel better. thanks: :)

I was prepared to lay in to Michelle A. about not being able to afford a dog when her question asked about getting a cheap dog. You know, the normal, if you can't afford to buy one, you can't afford to care for one.... After reading her question though my heart dropped into my feet.

I just wanted to thank everyone for not criticising her. Supoort our troops AND their families!

Ok, so this is more comical then anything else.

Our JRT/Beagle mix will be two in Feb. (we think). He is changing colors here and there and I know he will continue to change as he gets older.

BUT, his nose that used to be black now has copper tones in it. We laugh about it because the copper coloring has come out in the middle of the nose. Junior runs around the yard with his nose to the ground. He's rubbing the color right off! LOL!

(His nose is healthy and moist, no cuts or bruises.)

Is the copper nose a Beagle thing or Jack Russell? I've never actually owned a dog who's nose changed colors.

How do I keep my dog from jumping up and "pawing" at me when I am standing or sitting near him? He's a Doberman and he's 5 months old and he weighs 50 pounds. He loves kids but I am afraid that he will knock them over or hurt them with his claws or nails or whatever you call them. I have tried not looking at him, giving him a little knee in the chest( not hard ), avoiding him by turning when he jumps up. EVERYTHING!!!!! HELP ME please!!!!!!!!
