Try a local Petsmart and see what rescue organization they're with. I know the one by us, the adoption fee is $100. That's for the dog that is spayed or neutered, has all their shots, and has a v-chip. It's nonprofit,so all the money goes back to helping other dogs. If you get a dog anywhere else, you usually pay for the dog and then end up having to pay to get the other stuff done. Or even if you get a "free" dog, you still have to pay to get the other stuff done. The spay/neuter,shots,and a v-chip can easily cost $100 or more in itself. Also, the rescue groups foster the dogs so they know the dog's personality well and can tell you all about it. Also, you get a coupon book for $10 off a training class. Training is very important.

Try www.puppyfind.com or your local paper or shelter. I think a dog for you guys would be an excellent idea. Your son will learn responsibility and have a companion and might help w/daddy being away. A dog might be a piece of mind to you for safety. I rescued a 1 1/2 yr old chow mix and she is wonderful. She was already housebroke and loved my kids. Good luck in your search.

Check out your local animal shelters. Those are filled with dogs that are in need of a loving home like yours. If you have a certain breed in mind, you can also search the net for rescues. You can also go to www.dogster.com and look at the adoptable dogs. There are a lot of cuties on there in need of a good home such as yours as well. Good luck on your search!

Adopting a dog from a shelter is your best option. If you have little money, paying an adoption fee and having everything done is a great way to save some money!!!!!
If you get a "free" puppy, it will cost you a fortune in vet care getting it all done!!!

Go to the Humane Society. My fried just bought a beautiful lab for 35.00. There are so many animals there looking for a good home. They just need the right person to walk in., and as soon as there eyes meet they will know that they belong together. Good Luck

I'm not from your area but I'm sure your local shelter would be the ideal place to look for a dog to join your family. Best wishes to you and your son while your husband is away and prayers for his safe return.

Check the pound. Ours is $30 and it includes license and $50 certificate towards spay or neuter. And sometimes you can find a dog that is already spayed so that saves even more money.
