Why do you think they howl when sirens go off?

Dogs actually rely much more on their sense of smell than their hearing. It's all relative though...if we could suddenly hear as well as them, then yes we'd be overwhelmed, but it's natural to them.

They don't know any different. Seems we get overwhelmed observing the dog that is obviously hearing something far off that we can't!

A dog can hear a pin drop 3 rooms away on a carpet. How's that for hearing? Eh?

yes and no, first of all they are used to it so it is just like with us, there are some sounds that are so obnoxious that are daily sounds to us. They just have more of them!
