Same as every other breed - about 3 weeks. It's healthiest for her to be spayed, though.

All breeds of dogs have similar cycles. BUT...each female is unique, much like human females. Like one woman might have a 4-day period every 29 days and another woman might have a 6-day period every 25 days, dogs can have slightly different cycles. It depends on the individual dog, not the breed.

The AVERAGE cycle of a dog runs about 21 days and contains three stages.

The first stage has heavy, dark spotting, with the vulva slowly increasing in size. This generally lasts for 7 - 10 days.

The second stage is when the female is actually fertile (3 - 5 days of the entire cycle). The blood flow lightens in color, becoming almost opaque pink. The vulva is at its largest at this point. Due to the lack of color in the blood, some people mistakenly think that the cycle is over...WRONG! Now is when the girl will become pregnant.

The final stage has a return of the dark blood and lasts for another week or so.

BUT...as I said before, this is only the average, each female can be different. I have had two different females who were successfully bred on days 25 and 28 of the heat cycle! As these were planned breedings, with a vet closely monitoring the cycles from the beginning, we knew for a fact that these were the correct days, we didn't just think they were in season before they truly were. The females were not related, not even the same breed.

1 week coming on, 1 week to 2 on heat and 1 week going off is the general rule
