I have a male and a female chihuahua. My female gave birth to three beautiful, healthy , puppies 71/2 weeks ago. When we let them out to play, supervised of course, they playfully chase after him and he gets a little scared and not sure what's going on. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can help him get over his fear? By the way, he's not aggressive toward them in any way, and he'll sniff them , if we hold the puppy up to him, but just gets a little nervous when they get too close!!! Serious Answers Only Please! Thanks!!!

I need one that can live in a small house with a small yard, that doesn't bark all the time and can stay alone during the day when I am at work. I don't have that much time, so I was thinking about getting an older dog that needs a home from the shelter. I have a cat, but I don't know any dogs that really get along with cats. It also has to be nice with kids ( I am a single mom with a 3 year old son). Any ideas?

My puppy is about 8 weeks old the other is 9 weeks.. I just got them from the humane society on monday. I took them to the vet on tuesday and they vacinated them. Wednesday the 8 week old was in pretty bad shape and they said it could be parvo but they couldnt test it because they had just been vacinated. The puppy died yesterday evening. Is the other one going to die as well? He is still eating and seems to be doing ok, but i know how contagious Parvo is. He does has some diaherra and some vomitting. His temperature is normal. Is there anything more i can do?

I have a 3 year old small mixed breed. She is crated during the day when I am not home. I have been told that she barks constantly throughout the day. I have tried a bark collar with minimal success. I am going to be moving into an apartment where a constantly barking dog will probably not be tolerated. How do I keep her from barking while I am not home? Please help!!

Would you please tell me what your favorite novels with animal characters are? I know the obvious, Animal Farm, Lives of the Monster Dogs, Ishmael, Cat/Dog Lover Mysteries, Charlottes Web and Babe.

Please include childrens books if you love them as long as they are chapter books, as opposed to pictuer books.

Thanks for your help.

My husband and I are having the hardest time getting our dog to behave. He's a pain in the rear. I have tried all the positive rienforcement I can, I shower him with love but he's still a turd. He goes crazy on walks and would rather try to kill himself chasing a lizard then heel...

Any advice? I'm 17 weeks pregnant and worried that he isn't going to behave around that baby.

I was looking for pet food and I went into a local pet store not expecting that they had about 15 puppies in the back of the store in cages up for adoption. Yes, they are cute and lovable faces but 98% of the time they are from backyard breeders/puppy mills which means your puppy could get parvo and such. I have never bought from a pet store but I just wanted to alert everyone that doesn't know that pet store dogs/puppies may be cute but they could have or devlope something wrong with him/her. And please, spay/neuter your cats and dogs!

All the puppy shampoos I have found say not to use on puppies under 12 weeks old. My puppy is 8 weeks and I would love to have her smell a little better. Do you think its ok to use baby shampoo since it is so gentle?

Hi!
Just looking into puppies at the moment and have fallen in love with the German Short Haired Pointer. I don't want it for hunting purposes, and was wondering if anyone has any health info on them before I commit? So far everything I've read about them has been very positive, just wanted to check in closer to home about your experiences. Wondering also if they have a naturally high hunting instinct, or is it possible to curb this when you get them young?
Anything you can tell me is greatly appreciated!

Adopted a new dog and she doesn't like any dogs or people outisde of my house. I got her 2 weeks ago and she's approximately 2 years old and was being fostered in a home with 2 other dogs. She's great with people who come to my home such as family and friends (she's shy but warms up quickly) but when I walk her she barks at other people we come across and barks and growls at other dogs. She acts as if she wants to meet them and even whines - but when we approach them she acts aggressively. I have tried letting the leash go but she runs right up to them and starts barking. Strange thing is she's not like this inside the house AT ALL. Anyone come across this with their dog?

Ok, I went last night to see a 4 week old puppy that I am buying (a Maltipoo) He is sooo cute. Anyway, my question is is it ok to bring the puppy home at 7 weeks instead of 8? I just want to make sure before I do, I can't wait to get my puppy but I also want him to be healthy and happy.

My family is interested in getting a puppy but no one is home during the day from 7am to 4pm four days a week. We are home the other three days. Is there any way to keep the puppy in a kennel when we are gone? We don't mind cleaning up where it goes to the bathroom. Puppy would have enormous attention at all other times. Do you have any suggestions how best to do this apart from leaving the puppy at a dog day care? We would rather not get a puppy if it means dropping it off at dog day care. We could wait until summer when school is out and then someone is always home. Your ideas? thanks.

My friends dog has had heart worms for about 4 years, the vet can't do anything. Now he is having problems breathing a little bit and coughing sometimes. He is still acting like he is happy and he still eats and drinks water and plays. What should I tell my friend to do ?
